the horses are disrupting natural habitats, and have caused native plant populations to become in danger of extinction. do the math: if horses kill native habitat, then native animlas suffer as a result of having their homes destroyed by non-native animlas. if you want to get into the 'who was here first' game, then the native wildlife were here long before horses helped people build anything. so dont they have a right to live too? they were here first.

Have not read to see if anyone has cuaght this but this is incorrect, horses have been here much longer than other animals, they truly originated here then went over the "bridge" and lived here no longer and then the settlers brought them back.

That's just seriously terrible. Why kill them? They should be able to freakin roam free

they dont butcher them alive. dont listen to PETA, they are a terrorist organization, and the propiganda videos they put out not representative of the way animals are euthanized by the BLM. you want to see crewl treatment of animals that are actually healthy and adoptable (unlike the horses in question) then go to http://www.petakillsanimals.com/shockingphotos.cfm

i only bring up PETA because they are the ones who put out all those horse-slaughtering videos, so lets not go down the PETA road, theres alredy another thread for that

i dont think the WHOLE of PETA are like that.
look im not against you. my beliefs are, we are all here for a reason, i am not a religeous person AT ALL (no offence to those who are) but i will live my life in what i believe is a good way. be nice to people, help where you can, animals have feelings so treat them right. IF it will relieve animals of pain and they arnt goin to get better, then yes euthanisation is the best option. which is what i have been saying. cull weak(ill goes in weak) and old in a humane fashion. put the rest up for adoption and spread them out over the country as long as transportation is also humane. im sure if they put the word out there would people readily willing to come pick some up and house them at their farms etc until they can get housed.

Ding ding ding! It's not like they're snakeheads or something that will destroy the ecosystem they live in.

Actually, they are like Snakeheads, destroying the ecosystem they live in. A horse has two full sets of teeth, allowing them to graze and browse in very different ways than native deer and sheep. If you've ever seen a horse pasture eaten down to 1/2" you can understand the destructive capability of feral horses.

That said, I certainly don't condone their wanton slaughter. If the animals can be adopted out or otherwise relocated then that would be the best solution, but sometimes culling is the only viable method for controlling the population.

i addressed this issue a few pages ago. horses DID NOT come from aisa or north america. they evolved in europe, just because the pre-horse Mesohippus fossils have been found in north america, that does not mean that horses as we know them ever existed on this continent. and the fossils they have are 30-50 million years old.

does anyone actually live near the wild horse range? i live a few hundred miles from them, and see comercials to adopt mustangs all the time. its NOT HARD to find and adpot wild horses! so dude, stop saying "we need to adopt them out" becaues THEY DO! the problem is that not many people want diseased un-friendly horses with health and hoof problems, so the ones that are adoptable sit in pens for months waiting for a "loving individual" to come rescue them.

if you guys are so against this, then why dont all of you go adopt a wild horse, and give it a place to "roam free" on your own land. then maybe you'll see how quickly it will turn your nice field into a dirt patch. http://www.blm.gov/wo/st/en/prog/wild_horse_and_burro.html heres a direct link on how to adopt them.

did you know that 40,000 black bears get killed by poachers every year in the US? did you know that the black market animal parts trade is the 3rd largest illegal industry in the world? (behind the drug and gun trade) but you never see anyone getting all bent out of shape over any of the native wildlife that are being exploited. did you know that the 40,000 black bears that are killed illegally every year usually only have their paws and gall bladders taken, then the rest of the carcas is left to rot? so why are we arguing abouut feral horses? there are much more important wildlife issues at stake in todays world

wow some things are just better off not knowing about in this world.........this is some f'd up stuff!
