a peacock bass of the same size fights a lot better than a largemouth though.

I'd rather go out on the docks and catch a Blue Fish. Now that is a fish that can fight and come back for more just because it wants to be an ass. For FW Peacocks are fun to catch but nothing at all beats a 52 inch Striper Bass!

Care to elaborate why?

If Peacock Bass are cichlids, then LMB should be. Cichlid is a pretty loose term considering the variety of specimens. Angelfish, Oscars, Pikes, Cichla, etc. Keep in mind that the scientific classification doesn't really involve that much science, more scientist opinion.

Bass are centrarchids as are sunfish. Fish are classified based on morphological characters that we cannot always pick up on upon visual inspection. Classification has now become more reliable based on comparitive DNA technology. Many of the groups of animals have been compared based on DNA similarities, and sometimes it indicates that earlier taxonomic breakdowns were incorrect. Therefore I will debate you that classification doesn't involve science, but I will concede that opinion does play a role.

And so far as taste goes, most freshwater fish that I have caught (and I have caught and eaten most of them), taste better than a LMB.

yeh sounds pretty c00l

Perhaps we take them for granted but Large Mouth Bass (Micropterus salmoides) are RAD! My buddy has a 3,000 gallon pond with 3 Large mouth (3-5 pounds each) and those things are monsters. When he throws gold fish or koi in there some of them don't even hit the water. The bass litteraly jump out of the water and grab them mid-air. I don't think your allowed to keep the but, they are truely monsters.
there are many cichlids cooler than LMB
