The ones that are countable all seem to have 13 or more.
 
Is it true that P. perruno get 24" and L. longibarubs get up to 36?
 
There does seem to be some quite different shaped adipose fins on a couple of those fish posted.

I see what you're saying. I'm almost wondering if when these fish were first named they were actually just all subspecies or species within the same genus. There are marked differences just within the species longibarbis. Seems it needs much, much more research. Going to try and get hold of a silurologist that I know, and see what he has to say about it. I also found a museum that claims to have the first collected specimen of perruno in it's collection. Going to see if they can photograph it and send me pics.
 
Hey Necro you sure you got number of rays in dorsal right, thought it was 1 hard 7 soft, eight in total.:)
 
I'm basing my count on several different sources since they all vary. 8-10 for perruno, and 12-14 for longibarbis. If the experts cant agree how can we? lol. Let's ask for a recount.
