One of my LFS has a 5" "Peru Lungfish". From what I can gather, it's an SAL. Is that correct? If so, at what size do they generally lose their juvenile appearance of black w/ white dots? The pictures I've seen of larger SAL look totally different. I know next to nothing about lungfish. I just need to confirm the species so I can do a little research. If I have any specific questions, I'll ask later.

That would be a SAL (L. paradoxa)-Anne

Thanks. I'm not trying to second-guess you, but according to my interpretation of the sticky, they can be kept in a standard 180 at an adult length of 4'. :confused:

those are max. sizes in the of wild caught specimens.Captive specimens tend to be smaller.-Anne

Oh, OK.
The guy told me they could get to 6', so I figured the 4' figure was for captive specimens.

i have a biggo lungfish named donald

:confused::screwy:

they tend to lose theyre spots around 8 inches.
but all fish are different.
then the black becomes duller and more greyish.

Well, I've been really thinking about getting it as they still have it, lol. Yeah, it's about 8" or so now and losing its spots. My bichir/gar tank looks so empty and I've been looking for something else to go into it and I think this just might do the trick. If I could only find an afrowana also...

This tread is about almost 2 years old and you said that those SAL are at 5" and now they are only at 8".... Are they the same lungfish as you seen before? That's the slowest growth rate that I've heard especially from a juvenile SAL. I got my my new 3x SAL at 4" and now they are at 7" in just a month.
