You can vent him or her .I'm not quite sure on how I asume you give them a squezze by the anal fin I'll try lookin it up for ya!Ok so aparently thier junk is already out no need to squeeze .Triangular is male female more rounded.And i am sure some males have more of a nuchal hump than others so you would be safer to vent i am sure!MONSTER FISH MASTER;4029763; said:
Also i was just looken at my largest who is 8 and a half inch you would need a gnarly set of magna fieng glasses or have some one els e take a picture while you hold the fish and zoom it big time so you can study the pic.of course i wear glasses and my vision just is not what it used to be .I would definetly find out what you got and then get what you need.HULON;4029777; said:
if u would have posted two weeks ago i had a breeding pair of peru monos but i gave them to a friend of mine for 50 bucks each ...... my two i had spawned at 14 inches... and i had a farm hybrid who also spawned wit my peru mono male. i guess mono is mono ......

It's my understanding that the hump will appear and get larger when they fish are about to breed not just when he's an adult.

Are cichla as easy to breed as other cichlids? Like Red Devils? I bred these like crazy once...
Also, how hard are they to pair up? How long should it take?
I am thinking of giving the pair (once I find a male) 1/3 of the tank, and I might leave the eggs/fry in the tank until they all hatch...then I will keep a breeder net at the top of the tank with the fry in it. I will then let them grow to a good size, move to a 10 gallon, then to a 55, then to a 80...etc
Are the egg tumblers needed, or are those only for if you remove the eggs from the flat surface they were laid on?
Is there anything else specific I should know? I have read a few of the cichla breeders threads, and what to do...just give me some info before I try to start.

Well... My 8 incher has a hump and a sloped forehead already. Peacock bass all mature extremely different. They will all develop different characteristics/colors at different sizes, just like how humans vary in looks and height.
