Well if that is a farm Mono I want one ther still hot! And yes Silver those are Occels you have there as well but could be a variant mix. I still think there just as nice as any other cichla. I have been getting more into the different sp lately and right now I am trying to get a feel for all Mono's. I need to see more picture's of farmies against true Mono's and I also need to figure out how many different Mono's sp/ there are. Should be fun for me. I guess it's time to get a coffee maker.

These guys below were identified as ocels, however im starting to think different only because they dont show the trademark blood red eyes and their already around 8-9inchs.. could they be a hybrid of ocel/mono they show the black marking s the monos do behind the pectoral fin which makes me think this..

The first Occel that is braking up gives them away everytime. Deff Occel. But don't get me wrong very nice Occels. I will be doing a thread for them as well. I guess sooner then later. Also thre Mohawk stays Black or more Greyish then the Mono's which tend to fade from solid black conecting down through the body and tappering back down the Mohawk turns a light greyish almost Light Blue if you will.

what type of info are you looking for... as for farm monos if it looks mixed thats because its a farmie and prob is mixed

lol no that is not the way to tell at all lol but i know a wild cichla when i see one.

Same place I got all of the Cichlids in that tank. A friend of mine. Killer Mike. He use to be a site vendor but not anymore he got out of the game for good. =-(

hmm not exactly since their are different variants of monos that are collected from diff rivers... for the most part some look similar but others hold diff characteristics. I wish you were able to still view pics from 4-5 years ago on WW. they had tons of pics of wild caught sp. pics, 2 whole picture threads full it is easier to reference when you have actual pictures to compare too

Yea more or less taht is what I am looking for is a plethera of pictures with acurate sp id and collection local. I am just trying to get a better feel for the TRUE look of all Monos.

Sorry Silver that if it looks mixed then it probably is mixed is still new to me as I am not as good in distiguishing wild from farmie but I am beggining to see the light. Or should I say the shades of Ciichla.

my monos are from the ucayali river, but both fish look completely diff and i wonder about one of them.
