Pet fish recommendations for a 55

Thank you for all the suggestions guys! I really like the Electric Blue Acara. They kinda look like big Rams. Those are kinda in the lead at the moment!

Unfortunately, because of where my tank is, I am limited to a 12" deep tank. I live in a small studio apartment and simply cannot fit anything deeper.

The acara would be a good choice. Appropriate size for your tank. A male sajica, spilerus or convict could work in a wet pet type scenario. Personally I would stay away from fish like carpintis, they grow to big for your tank.
If its a wet pet your after have you considered a puffer fish? There are a few that stay between 4 and 6 inches and are just as personable as lots of cichlids.

Short body Flowerhorn is my suggestion. Super personable, cool colors, don’t really care for tankmates anyway. Another would be a female Mota, I was just telling somebody else on here I think they are the best looking fish going, and they stay around 8 inches. Best of luck with the new set up, I’m sure you will come up with something you like.
