Pet fish recommendations for a 55

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Since you have to stay with the 55 I suggest on getting Honduran Red Points. Get a breeding pair. This is awesome to watch their behavior. With these you can also have some dithers like Platties or Swordtails a Bushynose pleco, small catfish like Porthole.
I had one set up like this for 15 or so spawns and only ended up with 3 fry that made it to adults.
Everyone eats off each others fry so your tank don't get overwhelmed .

Hey Hendre, I've had a few of those guys, I'm surprised you don't remember my build threads!

I need something that can eat pellets from the autofeeder while I'm away for work.
Oh yes! How about Cryptoheros sajica ?
They do not get too large, are colourful and quite cool! Dan Hiteshew had one (I am not sure if he still does, haven't watched in a long time) but it's worth checking out on his youtube channel :D

After a few decades of keeping tropicals, I've recently became interested in fantail fancy goldfish. So, something for you to perhaps consider.

Electric Blue Acara seem to be the nicest thing that has been suggested. I had never heard of them before

EBAs are a classic fish. Hardy, personable, pretty, can stand their own in a semi aggressive community. They seem to breed if the wind blows, and they are not too nasty when they get to breeding so your tankmates wont be too stressed.

The big male is around 7" maybe 3-4 years old.

Zanzag Zanzag has a pair of "wild type" blue acaras that have a different look to them.

I think a pair would be great for your tank. Many options for tankmates too so long as your maintenance and filtration are on point.
