pet or hobby?

My fish are just as much as my pets as my dogs and cats are, hell they're my children. They all have names (except my community tank of little freshwaters) and I spend just as much time with them as my mammalian friends.

Spoiling them to ****, feeding them a variety of food, setting up awesome aquariums for them etc is the hobby. Every time I have money I run to different LFS to buy some stuff I don't need atm but will maybe, possibly someday in the future. My fish keeping hobby is borderline obsessive tbh

The fish are pets, but creating and maintaining their environment is a hobby. When I do that for my cats, it's just called "cleaning".

I voted a little of both b/c it is a hobby...... look at all of us and how much effort we put into speaking about fish keeping here. its definitely a hobby. But at the same time, we really grow to be attached to our fish as they are our pets

A hobby is an activity or interest that is undertaken for pleasure or relaxation in one's spare time.
that can easily include stuff you do with pets.


i think i a better question would have been "are fish a pet or moving furniture?"


i believe everyone here would answer pet, but i know alot of people that simply view them as furniture, i must confess i view the small less intelligent fish like tetras as less then a pet but still a animal.

Definitely both. Especially when you get a high personality fish like an Oscar. I mean how could you not name it?

My fish are definitely pets. They interact with me, I pamper them, they have names. Yup, definitely pets. Growing the plants they live with is definitely a hobby though, so is aquascaping.
