Cell phone calls to 911 can be traced... unless the phone is like 10 years old. Actually, even the motorola I had 10 years ago was able to get traced for 911 calls.

I'm not saying that landlines are useless or obsolete, I'm just saying that cell phones are a viable replacement.

they can be traced, but you do not get an address or exact location. you get approximate GPS coordinates from where the call was placed.

not much help in many situations.

in Canada, they recently have unveiled enhanced 9/11 service, but again, its not the same as a land line call.

if I am in trouble at my neighbours or my house, and I call on the landline, they know EXACTLY where to come if I cannot speak. they come to the correct door.

if I call on a cell phone, they know the approximate area I am in. thats all.

still no good in a life or death situation.

this is one advantage that a landline will always have over a cell phone.

hell, its the only reason I have one at my own house..

For the spelling (read:using the wrong word) thing, if English is not your first language it doesn't bother me. I can gloss over mistakes like that as Im sure others do when I try to speak their language. However, if you are an English speaking individual it becomes a little irritating. Its so simple and makes your message much easier to comprehend. Forums arent really that big of a deal though it truly bothers me when I see it in things like blogs or stories that represent not just written communication but writing as a craft. Forum posts are sometimes hastily typed, off the top of your head remarks and much can be forgiven there. And before I get bashed you'll notice that I skip over some punctuation, mainly apostrophes, so yeah Im not a grammar nazi or anything I just prefer to use words the correct way.

1.) Not everyone has cameras on their cell phones, Jessica. I do not. The purpose of a cell phone was designed for verbal communication when you do not have immediate access to a telephone connected by wire (e.g. - a home telephone or pay telephone). Cameras on cell phones are just materialistic devices one has to pay for to be with the "in crowd". It is also something else one has to pay for that puts more money in the pockets of a wireless telephone company when it's really not a needed utilitarian device.

2.) Something else that comes to mind . . . if you don't like the way people advertise the items they are selling on this website . . . DO NOT GO SHOPPING, that way you will not be wasting your time.

No, I didn't mean for it to be taken so literally that "every single person" has a camera phone. However...odds are that a friend or family member does in fact have one (or have a camera you can borrow, etc). Indeed there are instances where certain people may not have access to a camera, and in that case they should provide an accurate description, stock photo, dimensions, etc of the item. Especially if there is a higher price on the item (let's say over $50).

In my specific case, I'm looking for large cage for rats. I have looked at three different cages that were all inappropriate and not as described, and people get pissy when you tell them you don't want the item. Take some photos!! I wasn't specifically talking about this website...more or less I do my used shopping on craigslist. I should have specified that. I don't really like shipping with private parties, so I do avoid that here. I will say I would never ever buy something from someone online without photos.

I do feel cell phones have their place and are a great tool to make life easier...certainly not a necessity but I would prefer (and do have) a cell over a landline.

I have never heard of anyone having to pay extra for a camera on their phone, even a lot of the $14 pre-paids have cameras, and having a camera-phone has nothing to do with being in the "in crowd" it is just for convenience. I have even seen 60+ year olds with camera phones, and I seriously doubt they care about being in the "in crowd".:grinno:

Btw, that reminds me of my pet peeve: when people flame other people for their pet peeves.

It is... well, SouthERN California... and its a HUGE area. LA/OC/Riverside/IE/SD... all apply

U know i have to agree with u on this... I get frustrated when ppl post "I'M IN SOCAL" and no specific location... I have to say i'm guilty of this because sometimes i just dont add my zip... I DO however put my city on my location so ppl will know..

But there are sales sometimes where i want to get but can't or miss out because of the location.. So cal is huge..... even LA county can be split to Western and Eastern part..

just my 2 cents.. ;)
