Perhaps their managers need to graduate from school before being offered a management position. It would be nice if they actually studied marine biology, economics, marketing and sales, but with all the other departments at Pet Smart, how can they be expected to know anything about marine biology?

He does have a point tho. not on the college thing, no ones going to college to make minimum wage, but they should at least have to take a crash course in zoology aand marine biology

And while you are at it, maybe some courses in avian veterinary medicine, advanced herp keeping, and every stupid question you have about small and furry but were to stupid to look for yourself. Just so you can go and get what you want and still complain about it like a bunch of little babies. If you think your so good, go start your own store, pay everyone who works for you fabulous wages, carry a more diverse stock than anyone else and charge less for it. After all that, satisfy every customer, give every deal that they think they are entitled to and still listen to them come on to a forum and whine. Don't forget to make plans on what you'll be doing that second month after your business folds and stay the hell out of PetSmart/Petco/Petwhatever. You obviously too good for it.

If you hate the store so much, don't go there. We all know that they don't know their stuff that well. Also, most chain stores tags aren't willing to haggle prices with whoever walks in. That's why they have "Local Fish Stores" (or "LFS"s for short).

It isn't so much that Petsmarts or Petsupermarkets are bad. It just depends on where you go.

I've been to Petcos where all the fish always have Ich and they'll keep 3 5" Bichirs in a 2 gallon tank. And then I've been to Petsupermarkets where the manager has big 100 gallon tanks set up to sell Stingrays and Arowanas and the fish in general couldn't look more healthy.

You just have to do your field work.

this is pretty funny-i guess ya just pissed off a bunch of petsmart/petco employees yellowlab:ROFL:i agree though-i shop there when i cant take the long ride to the better stores and just need some stuff to get by, but both stores suck:headbang2

well speaking from experience, ive worked at a petsmart myself. i agree with you on the fact that its a chain corp. no one can disagree with you there. it really isnt up to the managers if they can give discounts or not as any corp. yes even srore managers have bosses. and for the lack of experience it really is the location. i did not know everything about every pet but i knew way more then the normal shopper especially when dealing with small 10-55 gal tanks with community fish. plus over ten years in herps i could give advice and experience to anyone looking at the lizards and frogs, and in return a few of my co-workers could answer just about anything about birds, small mamals, cats and dogs.

and not to mention ive found times when the lfs can be just as bad in the fact a few of them will sell you everything they can so they can survive even if you dont need it or there is a cheaper better solution.

my advice if you dont like it, find a good lfs and deal with them.

p.s why dont you look at the classifieds on here? ive found a free 55, picked up a full 90 set up for 200 bucks and found a bunch of fish. actually tonight i just bought a pair of jags from a member. cheaper and helps the people out here on the site

They did not have any 90 gallon availible, but the 75 gallons are 175.99 each the 40 breeder is 139.99
Glass? I've been to chain stores that had 60Gs for 60 bucks each on sale, just do a little searching. And if you don't like the store, why would you be willing to give hudreds of dollars to them when you could support a Mom and Pop store?

This is the stupidest thing I've read. You really expect a person to spend a ton of money for a college degree and work at a retail chain store?:screwy:

I think maybe the one who needs to do some research and learning is yourself.

Do you think "college" is a magical pathway to wealth? Many chain store managers do have college degrees, obviously not what they went to school for but i'm just saying. This is all theoretical though considering the manager could have a doctorate for all we know.

I don't know why anyone shops at these stores. Admittedly i worked at one for 2.5 years part time through college. I avoid them at all costs now, i buy as much as i can in shops i like, then the really expensive stuff online. Leave these places for the noobs and the old school myth followers. They have no business selling herps or aquatics. The retail chain idea is to have everything in written code, for employees to follow to make training and store operations easier. You can't have that with animals like this...
