PETA's underline message is we humans should not keep pets because animals have just as much rights as humans. Their individual arguments may be valid, but their end goal is wrong and thus I oppose them.

Thank you for support my argument that it was escapees from the fish farms. But the highly invasive species I am talking about are several species of carps, tilapias, snakeheads and walking catfish.

Tilapia are because people raise them in cages for sale in "aquaponics" and when they open the cage to feed them some probably escape.

Locally, city municipalities stock lakes with tilapia for grass control. I doubt there are an abundance of jail breaks during feeding time.

Davis I really hope you are joking that PETA started out like MFK. Ingrid Newkirk started and still runs PETA they were nuts from day one. What else do call a group that would shoot cattle in a pasture because they are better dead than owned. PETA is against animal ownership and believe people and animals are equal. When will you guys siding with PETA and the HSUS and any other one of these groups wake up and smell the coffee. There members and followers believe if a kitten and baby were drowning you save the kitten first. Wow what a wonderful bunch where can I sign up to join them!!!!

Do not twist my words to start an argument. All of us know what the nutjobs in the organization believe in and that the majority in PETA do not agree with them especially considering the amount of people that identify with PETA. Their intentions of helping animals aren't much different than here, but their policies and methods are outrageously bad in some cases. The last time they "freed" a group of mink in a fur farm near me they simply opened the cages, and the animals proceeded to kill each other. Around here people are either part of the fur farm industry which treats the animals pretty bad, part of animal rights orgs which are at best incompetent and at worst destructive, or simply don't care and just ignore everything.

Most people that like PETA are blind to the truth of the group. You say that fur farms are bad if it is your livelihood are you going to treat your source of income poorly no. PETA and groups like them stage fake fur farms and what ever they oppose to pull at heart strings. This works judging by how many here are defending them. It is high time people do more research on these groups their word is not the truth. Why does no one ever side with who these groups attack because the ones being attacked are just automatically guilty. From this we can now assume that any one involved in this hobby is a bad person who has no care about the fish they keep.
I am not trying to twist your words I want you to see the truth about PETA and any other animal rights group. Your feelings and the way you are talking right now will help them destroy our hobby. Do you want to help them or or would you like to be able to keep your fish.

I don't understand what you're trying to argue. I'm not sure why you think I'm defending PETA by stating that the places they target are also bad, and often they don't treat their income well despite what your logic might tell you. The majority of the workers on the farm are also treated pretty poorly and most of them speak little to no English.

As far as destroying our hobby? Accusing a group of evil won't ever change their minds. Maybe you should educate them that a goldfish doesn't belong in a bowl and an oscar doesn't belong in a 10 gallon.

Well... My personal theory of why tilapia are so invasive is they are so commonly used in aquaponics... People set up aquaponics cages in their lakes or ponds and if it. Nuff said. Lets not start an arguement.

No argument, only a discussion. Fish in cages arent typically being used IN aquaponics, they are being farmed FOR aquaponics (among other reasons). This is technically aquaculture. Also the cages are typically open top or large mesh so there would be no reason to open the cage to feed them. Might change your theory a bit.
