Would you rather live in a house all your life and be well fed with an artificial light over your head or be allowed to get your own food and go whereever you please?

I know this post is old...but you cannot be serious. With your logic we should build glass walls in all water bodies, and put up roofs on every inch of land to contain the animals. So animals don't belong doing what they naturally do, but rather belong in captivity for the enjoyment of others?

I have a thing or 2 to say about this stuff. First of I think peta ideas, specialy the long term ones, the ones they are figthing for are TOTALY irracional and unconcequencial. Thouse ideas are so like a fantasy and we must not let them turn into real. As already some wise forists pointed out, eating meat is not the main cause of obesity this days. The real problems are things like processed foods, lack of exercise and sedentarism. If meat was the culprid then what to say about the Inuit that tradicionaly eated a diet that was allmost exclusively composed of meat (and fish) from marine mamals? As far as pet and fish keeping goes I think its one of the most rewarding things we can do in our life, fascinacion, wonder, excitement and love all apear when we spend time with our pets. And unlike what peta says hanging out with human beings can be pretty sweet if your lucky;) For what Ive seing every single species that proves to trive in captivity has its future granted as far as we humans rule this planet. The main problem in this relacion ship is human greed, desrespect and ignorance by its proteges. Some guys are bad owners like some guys are bad parents. Luck again is all, luck to find a good owner and to endup in a good home. But that is regarding individuals. In the species level most are pretty good. Today are probably more diversity of dogs, cats, horses, cows, etc, than ever before. Many animals vanished for ever in the wild but because some people at that time finded a way to domesticate them, they survive in there domestic descendents. The list gets bigger and bigger. Tarpan, auroch, wild dromedarys, white cloud minow, many goodeids and poecilids, a few ciclids, a few turtles, axalotls, etc. We can show them of to our children because somewere in the past, close or far someone took them in and bred them:D

I'm proud this thread has lasted so long, and it's actually remained totally civil. :)

it has almost sparked rants by many, but so far your right

I'm trying to word this without making it seem like i'm a paying member of peta...

I don't understand why some of you get so worked up and offended at the sound of peta. If its not what you want to watch, then change the channel :screwy::screwy::screwy::screwy::screwy::screwy:.
PETA in itself, the name, is perfectly fine. Who isn't for the ethical treatment of animals? Especially being on a site like this with so much "passion." Unless you value your fish or exotics as trophies and decoration...then i'm sure you have shed a care at some point or another.

***disclaimer: i dont like petas current outlandish approach***

With that said...there is so little proof about all the "bad" they do. I'm sorry but a youtube video full of profanity doesn't do it for me. Go on their website, there is plenty of info on pets. Not just how to euthanize your pet :irked:. And is more control on the pet trade a bad thing? Puppy mills being raided have been in the news lately, or how about that post on here a few weeks ago about how many unwanted animals are scooped up dead off the streets in L.A.

Also, in regards to their stance on fish. Look at the industry from the outside, having not kept fish or having had any enjoyment for looking at a glass box full of water. What you would notice is grotesque youtube videos, odd craigslist ads, many animals living in delporable conditios at fish shops whether its an independent shop or a chain.

You want to be macho, thats fine...go off about how you love meat. I will admit there are many hardcore vegans who will spew out their ideals just has heavy. Both sides are just as bad...because someone going off on how factory farms are ethically great just doesn't make sense does it?

Just :chillpill: next time they want to urge the use of breast milk in ice cream. If it sounds absurd it is absurd and isn't going to happen. Its just more publicity for them when you start spreading it around...

alot of excellent points you have made...and i agree with you on almost all of them..

UGH! Peta are just pests. Theres one guy on YouTube, trying to getting rodeo banned. I will never side with them. If i have only two choices: side with PETA or "have fun in bed with world's ugliest, fattest woman who never take a shower or never shave and have male parts". I would take the woman and treat her like hero after she help me out by not choose the first choice.

After Im done with the complaints, PETA dont knows everything about animals, they just assumed that they know about animals which its not true. Do they knows about the endangered Goodeids and other fish thats extinct in the wild but do well in captivity? I doubt that.

hilarious...i like how "civil and on track" this stayed.

thanks for the PM DucatiDragster...maybe you can post it in the thread so it gets locked and you get banned.
