Until they have something to do with me DIRECTLY I don't care about them....

Welfare would be considered a right unless you are talking about advanced rights, like voting and privacy. There are enough monkeys in public office.

That being said. I would kill all of the endangered species in the world to save one of my children.

I can see most people here are not going to like PETA right off because they are against fish-keeping. That alone is probably enough to make them unpopular on a fish-keeping board.

I generally like PETA. My beliefs are a combination of AR and AW so that makes sense.
PETA is a large group of people with a diverse set of beliefs. They cannot possibly please everyone within the AR/AW community let alone the general public. That said, their main goal is AR as an organization, though they will sometimes support AW.
Sometimes their approaches and shock tactics are in very poor taste and sometimes there are extremists involved. Some of these things are to be expected when you have such a large diverse group.

On the bright side, I feel like they have brought awareness to some important issues. Without PETA , I feel some of these issues would never have become known to the public. They provide a valuable service by being an advocate for animals.
I've heard some say they do no help animals directly, well that's not true.
They help with neutering and spaying of companion animals, something I'd think few would be against as unwanted surplus companion animals only cost taxpayer money.

Whether or not you like PETA, I hope you keep an open mind and at least look at the material before saying "I hate PETA and I refuse to even look at their information".

:lol3: You mean apes right?.

I don't think this makes a lot of sense. I realize what probably you mean is a non human animal with a special status such as being endangered means less to you then your children. However killing endangered species is indirectly harming your children so it's not simply a them or us argument.

I like how PETA is for animal rights and welfare and all that, but they take it to an extreme extremist stance IMO. I eat meat, and refuse to ever be vegan...since thats the only way one could ever really be with PETA. I keep fish, have a dog and a cat and a horse. All are fat and happy and probably wouldnt last a month without me, my heated home and bags of pet food. I am all for pets, providing you can properly provide them with not only what they need to survive but what they need to thrive. I think animals have rights, in the fact they have the right to not be abused, mistreated, abandoned, or harmed in anyway. But I am an evil SOB that has obese housepets and eats veal what could I know ;)

i agree with PETA on one thing. if you're goin to kill an animal make it quick, don't torture the animal.
with that being said here's a little quote for ya'll
"my ancestor's didn't climb to the top of the F****** food chain for me to eat only vegitables..."

Wow...hadn't got on here since yesterday. Sorry about the confusing wording there, guys. Whoops.

BTW, why was this moved? Doesn't this fall under "...other pets?" as in besides fish? Just curious...

I think that they need to make a new orginization like PETA...one that is not extremist trying to make a point...i saw a documentary on PETA the other day..and they do some really stupid **** to get facts and inside info on these companies..that if they ever got caught would just make more problems for themselves and wouldn't help the animals at all.

Thinking about becoming a carnivore myself. Meat tastes just too good. What would peta say about all my carnivorous fish? We have to kill animals to support some of the animals that we keep. My catfish all eat cod, shrimp, tilapia, and other catfish filets. I am all for improving or salvaging the environment and making this planet more comfortable for animals to live on, but not keeping pets would steal away part of my very being.

Well some things Im for and some I am not
