Exciting news! I'd order some of the more unusual "small tank" fish.

Most of my freshwater comes from segrest. I am in the National Guard part time and I am full time at petco. That was one of the biggest changes most petcos have one full time person in the department we now have two. I also have at least two part timers that know what they are doing the chalange is keeping them informed because they are only their a few hours a week we have started a notebook with maintanience and customer requests to keep each other informed.

if i can make a recomendation don't turn your store into an mfk store. don't carry cichla, rtc, pacu, tsn, etc.. let these fish be upon request because when someone requests a certain fish 99% of the time they actually know about it. there are near limitless stock opportunities out there so go for stuff you know most hobbiests can handle rather than an mfk stock list. because although you say you refuse sales you've also admitted not being there the whole time so it'd be very easy to have those go to 20gal tanks...and another lesson i've learned customers lie!!!!!!! especially to get what they want.

on a side note i don't think you'd really need that chiller on your goldfish tank.

Same old broken record. By that logic NO ONE should carry monster fish. Ethically getting down to brass tax we shouldn't keep them and this forum shouldn't exist.

That's the conundrum we all face in this hobby and industry.

There is the elite 1% in the 1K plus club on MFK are the only people with tanks remotely large enough to house their fish. And even then sometimes are too small. Hell even public aquaria for that matter doesn't usually have enough room for real monsters.

The largest I maintain is 10x4x4 and the adult silver aro in there is starting to look cramped.

The largest we maintain is 35k+, if you include the stream thats connected, and most hobbyists couldn't afford the power/water bill let alone the build.
Before you ask. . . there are pics on the Bass Pro Shops web site. Its the Pearland,TX store. Sad to say 40-50k seems to be the upper size limits on most freshwater displays. Theres really just not enough mass appeal and interest to build an truly awesome MFK tank.

When Takashi Amano was at the Georgia Aquarium with our owners during last year's AGA viewing the ocean voyager exhibit he looked up at the huge view panel and shook his head and said ,in so many words, "Every aquarium in the world has this. This should have been an amazon tank". I can't agree enough.

Does anyone happen to know what the largest freshwater display on earth is? There's got to be some 100-200k tanks out there I'm sure, maybe one day we'll see 6 million +.

Good spotting Rallysman

I still will not buy any thing from petco in till they produce proper information on all the fish they sale. I can see it now....

RTC (red tail cat fish)
tank size: 55gal
food: flakes
Location: Makong river system
Tank mates: all

Wow, you picked through his giant paragraph to pick out one spelling error and made four of your own...Anything? Until? Sell? Mekong?

EPIC FAIL

The chiller is on the tank because the AC in the front half of the store dosn;t work that well and the tank will recieve some sunlight even though the window is tinted. So we all thought it was in the best interest of the fish that tank gets warmer than some of the tropical setups.
