ok so i was in petco today and the little tiger oscars they had in there had ALOT of red on them they were gorgeous, but i thought it was weird that oscars that little would have that much color (they were only like 2.5" at most) i heard somewhere that some sellers give oscars testosterone or some other kind of chemical/hormone to make the colors come out more, so my question is if i get one of these oscars and their colors fade could i expect those colors to come back once they matured?

Oscars will generally improve color wise as they age so if they have good color as a juvenile it will most likely only get better as the age. get one and find out.

I'm going to assume it has added hormones, they'll fade after a month or so. Then get their mature colors again as it grows.

my O from petsmart was very colorful.

i got mine and they were all black then changed to 90% green for a few months now 1/2 blk 1/2 green with orange scattered

ok kewl thanks guys yeah there are some with more greyish body and some with very black body but they all have great red on them, i think i will def get one of them once i have my tank moved and set-up again oh and i asked the guy if they gave them anything to bring out the red colors and he just said that they feed them frozen food and other varied diet so maybe its not with hormones?

The fish farms in asia are the ones who add the hormones, then they get shipped here. Just make sure you feed him foods that'll bring out his reds and he'll have great color as an adult.

I have an idea, get a real one from Jeff Rapps, its worth it!
