Petco doesn't seem bad to me, except for the fact that they have some ugly employees, and they hardly get in Pike cichlids! Bah, I went today and they weren't sure if they had ordered any.. I had to leave before they even found out.
try the petco aquatic superstores, they usually carry a bigger selection and better systems. I work at an "aquatic superstore" and its pretty decent although i still dont buy anything hahah

not sure if this is all you guys or saying but to tell you the truth, we have two LFS in town,and one petco. There is a few fish stores about an hour a way and a petsmart. I like the petco here,along with the petsmart a hour away. The LFS here or not that great. One of them dont carry much and wont ordder anything i asked for. The other,well i got 3 fish from him,all of which died,and he would not give me any credded on thim,(2-3 days after bring home). BUT have heard he has unheathy stock. The one LFS an hour away sold me a fish they had know idea what it was. This is not good buisness if you ask me. All in all,the petco and petsmart or my fav. Had know problems with them. Infact,the other day,my brother and i brout in a few 10" tinfoils and they gave him (know charge) a $40 lion fish he was going there to buy. He is into the salt water. There nice people that work there. Also one of the first things they ask when selling an oscar is ,what size tank you have? And they sell NO painted/died fish and NO pacus..
Just my thoughts, if anyone should be picked on for there fish sales should be walmart.
As fo as just looking after making money and not anything else? well,what do you think there there for? There a biisness just like any other LFS. do you think the vendors on here or not making money also? What would be the point of them selling you fish? Just for fun?

I never implied that all of them are bad. We have nice petsmarts around here. However, most of the petcos are crap (in this area,i've been to some good ones), and I was commenting on the advertisment that they ran showing a woman holding a 1 gallon bowl with 2 goldfish in it. That gives an unknowing customer the false impression that it's ok to do that.
Even if they go to the petco and the employees refuse the sale, the customers will most likely leave pissed still thinking that it's ok (unless there is some really good persuasive employees) and they'll get their 2 fish in the bowl elsewhere.
Of course they're in it to make money, so why would they make it seem ok to kill 2 fish.
It doesnt make sense. If you get someone a 1 gallon bowl, sell them 2 goldfish, and say "just add water" the fish WILL die and the people will probably give up on fishkeeping. That means they've just lost money on drygoods and possible future set ups.

Yeah I think it was all about the commerical. The could have set a nice small fish tank setup in the commercial and no one would have brought it up. My petco and others around here are pretty crappy but brent sounds like you have a good one. However your other lfs' sound crappy so that sucks.
