I do wish we had some of the fish more easy to get but as for asain and slivers I have seen them being sold here a bit high in price have also seen a green arowana and red with pictures to back them up on certain sites, RTC do also pop up here and there every now and then! the others I have never really looked for but have been looking for red or black piranhas! Theres even a massive Pacu down the road not sure if they are banned or not but!

It would be nice to have some of these fish but I do believe some are banned for a reason, even with reptiles right now we can see the damage some have done in Florida with the burmese python, even now I have seen lots of people buying jungle pythons or diamonds olives etc and once they start to get to big they cant keep them anymore which just causes issues everywhere I understand fish are different and most cant live all around some are banned for no reason but there are some on there banned for a reasons! I myself would love to own a black mamba but the issues and dangers this could cause are reasons we cant have everything we want! Just my own opinion everyones will be different on this topic I guess!

The Cane toad was purposely introduced to kill of invasive insects that were eating crops up in Queensland. It also can not survive anywhere below Queensland as it gets too cold.
But then again they are minimizing the already small chance of invasion and or disease spread.

well, in qld, NT or WA i understand but here in victoria it gets FREEZING during the winter.
Koi carps, goldfish, northern snakehead and few species do survive in freezing waters.

Well I'd kind of hate a bunch of invasive species taking over such a awesome/pretty place like Australia...

I know this is an old thread but I hope people still view it. I too am a little bit frustrated that we have difficulty obtaining such amazing fish in the hobby, but it is not without reason. Australia already has invasive fish such as redfin perch. These laws are in place to prevent the introduction and spread of noxious animals, plants and diseases into our fragile waterways. Also, we have the DPI's of numerous states trying to consolidate in order to revive populations of species such as murray cod and estuary perch. How much more difficult would it be if there was a population explosion of snakeheads in their habitats? Unfortunately, the authorities recognise that for every responsible fish keeper, there is an irresponsible one just around the corner. I wish there was some type of system that could be used to monitor people with exotic species to filter out the scumbags who ruin it for the rest of us. It really is a shame, but also a necessary evil.
