1. you guys get access to many species that we wouldn't ever see because of strict export laws.

2. seriously you guys have one of the most biodiverse and unique places on earth, half the species found there don't occur anywhere else on the planet. How can you complain that your government is doing the right thing because you can't shove a fish in a glass box and stare at it.

I think it's just human nature to want what we can't have. Overall, I agree with what is going on, but I believe there should be some sort of system (licenses, permits, etc) that monitor such species so that the responsible few out there can obtain these awesome creatures.

+1 ,people do need to learn to be more responsible, that's what has happened, those irresponsible few have ruins it for all of us

It is frustrating, but I'm glad it's the way it is!

For those that are interested here is the noxious fish species list for my state (Victoria)
http://www.dpi.vic.gov.au/fisheries/pests-weeds-diseases/noxious-aquatic-species

Keep in mind that those are just the NOXIOUS species. The live import list is a whole other kettle of fish (no pun intended).

I think it is just a case of wanting what you can't have. Australia fortunately has some incredible species! Monster species as well!

Here's a database of probably most of the Australian species of freshwater fishes
