Agreed. Some are fish keepers themselves, others just read the stickers to you. Generally Petsmart staff seem moderately knowledgeable....at least enough to not sell a baby Tiger Oscar to someone who loves their Fancy Guppy tank! (I've seen that happen at Walmart! LOL)
I rarely see bichirs of any type at my Petsmart. And in talking with the employee's there, they don't even know what are in the boxes until they unpack them.

nope, like I said, the company ships it all automatically based on what is sold and what they think should be stocked, the fish come with a sheet detailing what is in the shipment, but thats about it. Generally though, if there's a tag, but not many of the fish on the tag, they'll probably be in the next shipment...
I gotta admit, I get a lot of funny looks being the "go-to" person in the store for non generic fish questions (I also field a lot of small pet and reptile questions...) especially since most of the time the pet care people encourage the customers to come over to the salon to talk to me in person while I"m working... better than nothing for the customers, but they couldn't pay me enough to work out on the floor...

Who buys fish at Petsmart and who thinks Petsmart employees are the best source for answering questions about fish? Whenever i go to Petsmart, I see kids working there.

I dont know everything, but I do know which fish dont mix, basic care, and agression levels enough to start them out, then they can do further research at home. I am not going to baby the customer the whole way, sometimes I feel like I have to though.

BTW an Aro at petsmart is very possible if someone just dumped it off there. I dumped a channel cat off at petsmart that was a foot long... They put it in their community tank full of tasty fish and ghost shrimp for him lol
