I dont think you understand what I meant. People are still going to put pacus from petsmart in 10 gals. And nothing will be done.
i understand what you meant i think, that people will still do that. but this may get maybe a small majority to actually rethink the decision.

forgive me if infered wrong as it sounds like you were suggesting this as a preferable or necessary course of action
it shouldnt be petsmarts responsibility to check up on you and make sure your housing the fish responsibly. while that may sound like a good idea now, it will end up just being a inconvenience to responsible hobbyist and probably still not be effective.

the contract:

you'r fish grows large and we dont care. if it does survive then come back and upgrade your tank back at petsmart.

sign here please: XXXXXXXXXXXX.

the contract is bs i think

Thats not at all what I meant. I wasnt suggesting it, I was being sarcastic saying why waste the paper without action. A contract is worthless unless being checked upon. I know they wont check on the fish keeper and I know its not a good idea that they do. I was pretty much saying the contract is useless and wont change much of anything. I guess it will deter a few people and change a few peoples mind's about purchasing large fish, but I work at a lfs, and people are stubborn. If they want a fish becuase of how it looks, reguardless if they know they will kill it and improperly house it, they will still buy it.

I don't know why this is getting bashed so bad... a paper that's signed to make sure someone told some noob that the fish they just bought gets 3+ freakin feet long is a great idea.

I'm shocked you can get those fish at Petsmart regardless of the conditions and waivers you sign. I've never heard of them carrying paroons
he must mean iridescent ... Either way. Ive only seen a handful of pacu's in proper homes. :screwy:

Wow, didn't expect to get this many replies.

lol, I'm not sure on what species of Catfish it was, just looked like a Paroon from what I remember. I didn't really look at the name ,just saw "Contract Needed"
Surprised that they had a Banded L. marked that you need a contract, but not one for an Oscar, which normally gets just as big.:screwy:

I don't see why they need a peice of paper saying that the customer was notified.

we used to tell customers all the time about problems they might have with their fish. and we know they told them because thats how we ran things.

what I find so funny about all of this is that the info that petsmart gives about their fish is usually wrong in the first place..

yet they make people sign a paper saying that they were given the misinformation LOL

I think you're missing the point. This has nothing to do with the fish and everything to do with PetSmart covering their butt for what ever reason. There's probably a line on two in there that says something about giving proper care but only to the point that they're covered legally. When ever a business (especially a big business) makes you sign a contract it's about their protection and nothing else. That applies to individuals too.
