Stuck in the box again.
I bought it because they keep boasting that if their heater goes out or starts having problems they will replace it no questions asked. Never had a problem with them in a 90 gal balla shark tank, never had a problem with them in a 30 gal mixed fish tank so I bought one for the piranha tank. Didn't do some thinking in the size and power comparison of a 6 inch balla compared to a 6+ inch piranha. Oops.

One of the stupid fish ran into the stupid heater and cracked the glass on it. Its still working and has a mimimal amouht of rust in it but it needs to go. I can't afford to switch out to something nicer right now, are they going to say "ah, no. You broke it yourself"? My very helpful friend with the balla tank was kind enough to throw out the reciept because of their great return system so I only have the box to make the situation better. Someone has to have had this problem with their oscars...

Any advice besides the one I already know of don't buy top fin heaters for big fish unless you want to build cages?

you are going to want to replace that as soon as possible. cracked glass may mean water leaking in and a risk of electrical shock to you or your fish.

I use these heater guards with glass heaters to prevent breakage with my fish. they work very well:

another option to replace it with is the Marineland Stealth heater which is not made of glass. I am not a fan of marineland products, but many are.

hope this helps

take it back with the box, chances are high they'll take it back. They take back opened bags of dog food, even food that wasn't purchased at their store if the customer buys a bag of food from them.

Honestly, PetSmart's return policy is about as good as costo's. Pets come first at petsmart, if they can help you out and give your pets a safer life, they'll be more than happy to do so.

If you don't want to try it, then just go buy the same heater and take the old one back with the new receipt.

Thanks for the heads up speshul, I've seen some horribly odd things returnted to costco though. One lady was returning a diamond ring and they took it back. My only bad one was a monitor that lost a cable after 11 months and they took it back since its not a tv. :D

Yeah, PS is really good too. Believe me when I say the markup on pet products is outrageous. They'll eat the cost of a heater to please a customer. Plus when that stuff is purchased from the manufacturer, the cost of returns is already factored into the price we pay as customers.

Petsmart has great products...... Marineland and Tetra comes with some of the best warranties around. I mean a 3 yr warranty on HOB filters. My Marineland Steath Pro 300watt has worked awesome. My temp is always consistant and it has a 2yr warranty. Looks great, displays temp, has kept 79 degrees for a year now, Wont turn on outside of water was it doesnt break itself. Marineland makes good heaters imo.

Petsmart SHOULD NOT be returning bags of dog food if they are not purchased from that specific store. The store can get in trouble with corporate. Unfortunately far too many store managers will not enforce this rule. :( We will certainly return a bad of dog food that your pet did not like that isn't a majority empty, we understand every dog or cat is unique in their feeding habits.

Just clarifying that.

OP: If you do not have a reciept we can exchange it if it's within 60 days from purchase date. Obviously we have no clue in knowing this so just be smart and say it's within 60 days. Just try and keep the reciept next time, what we say to all of the customers. :)

It's definitely not a normal occurrence, but if someone comes in to PetSmart with a bag of alpo and says its giving their dog the runs and asks what they should do. The store is usually more than happy to work with them. Corporate really won't care. Customer first. Now if this happened 10 times a day at the same store, there would be an issue, but once isn't a big deal.

Anyway, no reason to bicker. I'm sure they'll take your heater back, if not just go buy another one and take the broken one back with your new receipt. No one is the wiser.
