I visited 2 LFS Mom and Pop, a Petco, and finally stopped at Petsmart as I was leaving Fayetteville, AR.

I figured that I find the usual uninformed staff, poor selection of fish (the dead and the dying), and high prices. What I found was a pleasant surprise...I picked up a snook, two severums, and a Midas. They were all in great shape.

When I asked the young lady for help bagging my fish...she immediately asked what size tank I had and asked me a few other questions before proceeding...

I was very impressed. I know that there are several threads concerning the bad and the ugly. But for those MFKers in Arkansas. It was a good experience.

There is a Walmart in Fort Wayne that has an excellent fish department. Sometimes the stereotype doesn't fit.

I was amazed at them having a great looking snook and the Midas.

Not to mention the store was amazingly clean. I passed on some beautiful Jags.

How much was the snook at yours? The one up the street has some nice looking snooks from time to time, but at $30 for 5" pieces, that seems way over priced.

There's a petco near my house that has some of the best looking tanks & fish around. The staff there is amazing, although it has started to slip a bit over the last couple of months.

I paid to much for the snook. However, if I would have ordered and paid shipping on it...I still got a deal. And if you figure I picked up the Severums at 4.99 a piece and the Midas was cheap also...

We have 2 petsmarts in greensboro. One is the one I spoke of in my last thread, the other is always in immaculate condition. They have some nice jags, snook, and midas there along with some good looking oscars. When I walk into the other one I look in the oscar tanks and usually there is one or two dead goldfish that they just toss in there for the oscars to pick down to bones. ALso the jag tank at that store, the bottom is green, it just makes me sad to see.

It's good to hear a + story for once (thank you). $30 is about average for snooks. I see them on here from vendors for about the same price, and that's before shipping. You can, however, find good deals if you check in regularly (petsmart). Ex. I got my snook for $10 because they said he was outgrowing their tanks (5", and I'm eyeballing 2 more about this size). It helps to have first dibs, too. :naughty: I just missed out on their frontosa for $12.50. It was one of the fish they offer for a short time to stimulate sales (it actually replaced their "trimacs")
