Petsmart "Red Texas"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've seen MFK members been out and about to grap these low quality Red Texas, and most of them don't even have any trails of Red Texas from Petsmart. Would this buying spree eventually sparks the Petsmart wholesaler to bump up their production of these 'Cull' hybrids? I foreseen sad stories slowly prevailing....

The dominant one has yellow red color on the tail and heavy pearling on the dorsal. They both came with ick so I image it will improve once they a cured of it and have settled. Uploading a video now.

Aside from the ones labeled "Flowerhorn", I haven't really seen any extremely low quality fish. In fact I am actually surprised on the quality on some of them, I mean they are not masterpiece fish but they certainly aren't all like the crap I see at local stores.

I did not base the quality on 'Flowerhorn', when comparing qualities, I value the quality of Red Texas base on the Red Texas standards. As you can see, the RTs in this thread show low qualities of a RT. The 'Flowerhorn' you just picked up shows good qualities of a Flowerhorn. Howerever, can you deny the fact that only a fews of the Petsmart flowerhorns are as good as that? And how many of us would spend $30 (including tax) on this FH baby? I don't know other region, but in California, you can always find that kind of quality/size flowerhorn in the lfs for less than $10. Again, what is the good cause in supporting Pestmart?

California, Florida, and New York are excellent areas to find them at good prices but the majority of the country has to deal with the swill found at local stores unless they order online. Of course the RT of this thread show low qualities for Red Texas BUT they are not Red Texas. Sometimes all you have is Petsmart or local stores that don't know crap and if you see a diamond in the rough why not snag it.

I understand the whole support local not big companies like Petsmart but the sad truth is thats not always possible or a good idea. Before I moved the city had a local store and Petco. The local store was dirty and didn't take care of the fish and on top of the owner was a sex offender. Petco was clean and cared for their fish better than the local store.

The flowerhorn is slowly becoming the Blood Parrot, its the new hybrid that people want and its just now being sold on a more mainstream level. You may not like it or agree with it but its not gonna change. Its likely that within the next year or two Petco with start selling them as well. While we may not be willing to buy one of low quality for $26.99 (no tax for me :P) but theres lots of people who will and are.

Same here no tax for me lol...and true if you see a good deal like 6.99 you have to get it roll the dice and see what it becomes!

$7 for a Redtexas is a good deal.
$7 for get a dice to roll? I don't know what to call it.

If you know what you are looking for you can spot quality. I know that one I got has potential thats why I bought it. Where it will turn out like I want that remains to be seen.

Again, I am talking about the Pestmart RT, the one (FH) you got is a different story.
I just saw another thread that RTs were bought because he sees a chance of Kamfa on them, from his pictures, I only see a little chance of being a Kamfa, if these 2 lucky guys turn out to be some unlucky low quality FH, what do you think the owner will do to them? Also, just thinking this in my head, there was another thread title (Red Texas Progess??) that he bought a RT from Cjbath (spelling?), a 100% wonderful looking RT, after a few months, he got bore because that RT did not live up to his potential, the RT got sick, and we have not seen that RT any more.
What I am trying to say is, as we are MFK members, since we are speaking on the MFL Forum stage, there are listeners, if we can be more responsible when buying, and keeping, this hoby will be a much clearer crystal ball.
So, your choices are, would you spend $7 to take the chance, or $10 to get a RT, or FH you want? The anwer is being hold in my hand firmly.
