Petsmart "Red Texas"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I understand that but one thing to consider is that the majority of the people that buy the fish is not for the quality but for the name. While the more advanced keepers that that look at fish might come to the conclusion that that its of lesser quality, someone not experienced is gonna see the fish for what it is and be content with their purchase. If everyone looking for them was looking for quality they wouldnt buy them in the first place.

I've seen MFK members been out and about to grap these low quality Red Texas, and most of them don't even have any trails of Red Texas from Petsmart. Would this buying spree eventually sparks the Petsmart wholesaler to bump up their production of these 'Cull' hybrids? I foreseen sad stories slowly prevailing....

i agree with this. low quality fishes from petsmart leading to a sad story. but if they want to get from there then go ahead. i went to a local petsmart and they had FH which they've never had there before, for 26 bux. there's better fish that can be bought for that money.

Yes you could get something better with that money. What I was saying earlier is that there are some nice that get mixed in with the crap thats worth the money. I'm not saying spend your money on crap flowerhorn but if theres something good in the group why not go for it.

When I go to Petsmart Friday I'll poke around a bit. I know a couple managers and they usually just hand me the stock list when they get a shipment so I can see if there is anything I want. That way I get first choice as they pull them out of the boxes.

i said that i did buy 2 of those RT and they probably would have turned out nice, but they died. i live where there are no local stores around me either and petsmart is the closest place, and i buy from them like dog food and fish supplies when i need it. there was a couple threads a while back with ppl here saying petsmart quality fishes were poor. the threads go more in depth but with my petsmart experiences i can concur with the majority and not get fish from them. the last time i went here all their tanks were empty and all they been carrying were small oscars and african cichlids. and community fish like gold fish. sry don't mean to derail ur thread tho.

Well there are so many factors to take into account. Is the store the problem, the wholesale, or the breeder. I would avoid buying common fish like oscars from a place like Petsmart because the breeders use horrible inbred fish. My locale store takes care of there fish for the most part. My Kamfas came with ick but that was either the breeder or the wholesales fault. Where ever the whole is getting the Flowerhorn and RT is a mystery but I from a different source than their typical fish.
