is the few bucks you save worth having sickly, badly taken care of fish bought from a large crappy corporation? I went there the other day for dogfood and a man and his kid were buying 5 (YES 5) baby pacus..I asked what sized tank they had...55 gallon..

Yes. Petsmart has some great sales and I always buy healthy fish. Most people on this site know how to select a healthy fish.

I don't think it's right to generalize all Petsmart's that way.. and the man and kid situation that has nothing to do with the store..or even the employees.. the only thing the employee can do is suggest. And you never know he might have a bigger tank for when the Pacu get bigger... its not nice going around and assuming things.. you just neva know!!!!

BTW I'm going there tonight.. just to check it out!!!

Well the fish department in every petsmart I've ever been in is a joke but to each his own just giving my opinion

I buy fish from many sources most are from breeders or online vendors. But I also occassionly pick up a few from Petsmart. Out of all the fish that I have purchased from Petsmart, only one has been sick and that was a Green Terror, a cichlid that has a rap for that sort of thing anyway. I take very good care of my fish and I would never purposely introduce any sick fish to my tanks. Experience, proper stock introduction practices, and good ol' common sense keeps my tanks healthy. Buying fish at a fraction of their original price, with an added 15% discount is well worth it to me. I agree that these chain stores can have some pretty bad business practices. I don't condone their bad decisions and practices. But some deals are very hard to come by. Like I said, most of my stock comes from more reputable sources. But I won't pass on a good deal.

In my neighborhood petsmart is better than my lfs for live fish.

Sometimes there are stores that do care. I have been to many Walmarts and everyone I goto one I check their fish section. I have seen stores that only carry ick fish, one that seems to only carry dead fish, and one that really does do a good job and have purchased a few from.

So how much are the balas?

I picked up 3 more clown loaches. 2 are oddballs :) im pretty sure I annoyed the lady telling her which ones I wanted and watching her chase em around lmao.

I love doing that. My LFS knows that I HAVE to choose my fish. They wait until I pick exactly which one I want out and they make sure to get it for me. It's always a good feeling knowing you got exactly the one you wanted.
