  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i was there and i don't think there trimacs one looked just like one and i almost got him but i thought back to all those threads about trimacs that like to murder there tankmates so i didn't but the lady there how kind of knows me said we have a new fish you might like and showed me the trimacs and said there suposed to be very color full and not very aggressive plus they don't get much bigger then cons i just looked at her and said uhhh we'll i think you need to research them a little more

Your male is very nice! The black-spots pattern is quite similar to a female I got from Ken Davis.
I have found that trimac juvies are rather plain looking - their real coloration starts kicking in when they are 3-4" when the throat gets pink and they body coloration becomes yellow/green.

Here are a few pics of her from two weeks ago:

That's a real nice looking female, very beefy.

Nobody wants trimacs, don't know why. They are such great fish. I have a ton of them right now... Love them! Had two breeding pairs, sold one, and kept one.

this is funny this is on here me and my buddy went to petsmart yesterday for chocolate pleco and i seen there trimacs labeled 3 spotcichlid and i told my friend to get one because it was definetly a flowerhorn but it is more flowerhorn and more colorful then those pics

These pics are bad....sorry. But I will keep adding them till we see something deffinative....

I don't know, the more I look at those Petsmart fry, the harder I think it is to tell... Trimacs are not that hard to come by and they're fairly easy to spawn. There's no reason why Petsmart couldn't carry them. However, the fish in my local store were labeled "three spot cichlids" not trimacs. A three spot cichlid could be literally anything while a trimac, technically, should be a Amphilophus trimaculatus.

I was there today to get some Prime and checked out the 3-spot cichlids. They now have the official Petsmart fish description card. In parenthesis underneath 3spot cichlid it called them (Amphilophus Trimaculatum). It also stated max size is 14".

Saw this thread and thought I'd chime in....I too saw the "3 spot cichlids" at my Petsmart this weekend and picked up one...here are some pics of mine.
