PH lowering help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Why do you want to lower the pH, what are you trying to keep? Most fish would much rather live in a stable pH slightly outside of their range than have a more proper, but fluctuating pH.

Driftwood is a natural buffer. As aquarists we capitalize on this. I've been adding driftwood to buffer my ~7.4pH water down to a cool 7.0 for years.

As mentioned above, add a few pieces of driftwood and it'll be okay.

:iagree: use driftwood to lower the ph, cichla prefer an thrive at lower ph's.

i take it you have african cichlids?:D

Getting an Ro unit is the most reliable.but then you need to mix back straight tap water to get the right ph
Some run the incoming water through a bucket of peat moss. That tints the water yellow which bothers some folks.

Actually I keep South Americans. Geos and Apistos, however I am fortunate enough to have decent water out of the tap with low gH/kH.

yeah us cali boys crappy water out here,,....

Oak leaves will work as well. It is much cheaper than buying Indian almond leaves which are the contrast of what is cheaper for us Asians.;)
