I can't keep my pH down for the life of me. Why won't it stay down?? My regular tap water is 6.8-7.0. I do water changes every 3-4 days. I don't understand! Can someone give me some suggestions??

My pH is about 8.0. I need it to be around 7. I have sand in the bottom of my tank. The only thing I tried so far is doing frequent water changes and using a pH buffer that is also a water conditioner. It's that 3 in 1 stuff.

Do a little test.put some tap water in a glass and let it sit 24hours then test it.Im guessing that itll be 8.0,co2 is buffering it down to 7.0 when it comes out of the tap as the extra co2 outgasses the ph stabilizes at 8.0 because of the buffers in the water.Reducing the ph of well buffered water is difficult unless you use peat filtration or an r.o. unit.

What fish are you trying to keep? pH fluctuations can be more harmful than pH being out of range.

Dwarf puffers

If your fish are doing well in the 8.0 you might be doing them more harm than good trying to lower. If the ph is staying consistant at 8 then you would probably be lowering the ph because it say thats the natural ph in the wild. I say if it aint broke.....
