PH question and EBJD breeding

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just did a big feeding and a 50% water change after all the excitement of having that other male in there for a couple days! Hopefully if anything its fired them up a bit. They have seemed to be more active at least.

Not much to update. No change with the pair but I did add a neat clay pot to the tank that they seem to be enjoying! Check it out! 3 back chambers are open and connected, and the front(or top)is is separated.

So here's my kind of "Luck"! Been trying get these darn fish to spawn for months with NO success, then today I picked up a very large pair of Wild-Type Dempsey's(males probably close to 10") from a guy on Craigslist for $20. According to him they had never spawned. I drop them in a tank about an hour ago and they're already starting to exhibit the tell tale signs!!! Geeeez...

Don't you love that?!?! Hopefully the others spawn soon :)

Dispatch273

is the last person you want advice from. She hasn't had any success in breeding & I'm disappointed she sold some of the BGGG's I gave her for more than she should have. Good luck with your new babies & keep the progress/updates with your JD's. Hopefully you'll get a pair to give you what your looking for.

Thanks Jill as always. I'm still pretty frustrated with my EBJDxBGJD pair. Not only because they are not spawning, but they also act so terrified and skittish. They never used to be like that. So it makes my tank quite depressing. Thinking about moving them out the living room and into our bedroom where there's less traffic. But here's basically my setup in case you or anyone else can see any quirks. 55 gallon tank fairly decorated, with gravel substrate. Running an emperor 400, and a diy HOB filter powered by I think a 250gph powerhead with a sponge filter on that. Temp is currently at 84 degrees. 48" T-5 light strip(which my most recent thought is that the blue led "moonlights" are freaking them out) (Sounds crazy to me too, but I'm trying to think of anything now). 15-20% wc daily and 50% weekly(usually) sometimes bi-weekly. Some may find this strange but tank mate used to only be a single needle-nose gar, but after I lost him tragically I got 2 silver rocket gar(or hujeta gar I believe )...removed my 2 silverdollar dithers yesterday (thought they were scaring the Jack's lol) and may remove the gar today. Well...think that's about it. Let me know if there's anything I left out. And thanks for any help!

Jill, if you have an issue with me than please pm me. What I do with fish I BOUGHT from you is my business. How would you know how much breeding success I have had if you don't ask me? I also don't see where I have given Bktgifridays any bad breeding advice....

Dispatch273 Sandy, I'm not wasting my time w/you. I am disappointed with you, but don't try & fool members here. I tried helping you start a breeding project some time ago. But you didn't want to listen & didn't have the tank space to properly start a breeding program. All the information we've exchanged regarding JD's & breeding gives me a good idea about your experience in breeding & it's not much. I wish you the best of luck with your ongoing projects, but you still have a lot to learn.

Also, as for my comments to Bktgifridays regarding my opinion about you. I stand firm...

Ben, I'm sorry about this. I will look over the details with your fish & setups & get back to you.

Woah...I'm just posting to hopefully get to page 6 of 6 so we all can all start fresh. Thank you both for your support!
