Find out your KH at the tap... use this to figure out how much baking soda to use http://www.dataguru.org/misc/aquarium/calKH.asp
! Add the rock... KEEP AN EYE on the values. If to high remove some...if too low add more. People add substrate to change water values also... point being IT TAKES TIME TO CHANGE. Lots of people are doing this and their fishes are just fine!
