Find out your KH at the tap... use this to figure out how much baking soda to use http://www.dataguru.org/misc/aquarium/calKH.asp

Get yourself a piece of Texas Holey Rock for decor... looks good and will raise GH,KH and pH overtime. Use the baking soda to raise both KH and then pH with water changes after this kicks in...

Whilst the over time part is desirable the FATAL FLAW once again as per coral sand etc is there is no CONTROL. I'm afraid I don't endorse "put in a pile or rocks and hope for the best".... What if the desired value is not acheived? Remember we are talking about a major shift! (6.0 to 7.6) So what do you do? Put so much rock in that half the water is displaced and there is little in the way of room for active free swimming fish? Of course not, the answer is the precise, diligent, recorded use of both epsom and bicarb in the water to acheive you goal. I have no problem with rock use for behavioural reasons (rift lake cichlids), trying to replicate a natural biotope, aeshetics etc but for addressing the needs of the questioner they are not the solution.

It ain`t brain surgery:nilly: ! Add the rock... KEEP AN EYE on the values. If to high remove some...if too low add more. People add substrate to change water values also... point being IT TAKES TIME TO CHANGE. Lots of people are doing this and their fishes are just fine!

I don't think I was suggesting it was neurosurgery. I am not particularly bothered about what "lots of people do" either. Someone asked for advice and I offered mine, you then chip in with puerile comments. "Add the rock... keep an eye on the values etc, if too low add more." That was precisely my point, what's easier to add and control precisely, rocks or dissolvable compounds? Who the nilly? Try to read and then assimilate the information. I'll give you a little background info, I am a member of Mensa, do you know what that is? Thought not.... And you?

It is the Guppies fault:WHOA:

MENSA won`t have me... seems people that think they know it all really hate those of us that do! :naughty:

Oh by the way my wife thinks I am her oldest child :D feel free to carry on without me... he did say "I am going to just use the baking soda for my GUPPIES"

My condolences to your wife, did you meet her before you became a brain donor? I've had a quick read through some of your threads and posts, stay by your phone, NASA could call for your help any minute....

Wouldn`t it have been easier to just call me a stupid kid... instead of using a convoluted diatribe to infer it? I assume your last response isn`t in the least bit puerile... now is it? :) 8 hours to come up with the last insult...Now that is using the old noggin! That is a long time to carry anyone around inside your head.

Diatribe? That's an impressive word for you! Well done, sure you're not using it out of context? It did not take 8 hours my friend, you know I had to sleep, work etc and the small matter that I'm in a different time zone. HELLO! Anyway I have better things to do now, namely interact with people with a modicum of intelligence, and I'm sure you have a trailer park to clean up:D

The FACT that you were still in the "My umbies are breeding" after my post means little... :nilly: typical ZIPPERHEAD with tunnel vision... but keep the insults coming. Next you will say Dr. Frankenfish doesn`t let you out of lab that often.

Oh dear, following me around the site, who's in who's head you dumb boy?I can tell you one things I am interested in - Eugenics. Government control on physical and mental redards, you know, stopping inbred white trash breeding. Be good if they introduce that in the States. Keep on relpying to your little heart's content as I shall now add you to my Retard/Ignore List.
