Here are a few shots of my "planted" tank. Hopefully, one I see that I'm doing things right, I'll add a bit more. I'm going for the overgrown jungle look eventually. I'll keep this thread and post updates and additions as we go.

Right now I will be fertilizing with liquid ferts per the sticky, but I have though about picking up some root tabs because of the pool filter sand. I will be filling the Co2 tank tonight, but do not plan on using it until I need it.

Stats:
75G tank
Coralife 4x55 CF light
20lb Co2 tank
Aquatek regulator w solenoid valve
Bubble counter
Diffuser
Pool filter sand
1 bunch of dwarf hair grass
6 guppies.

cool nice big set up!!! what kinda plants do u wanna grow other then the dwarf hair grass?

i like the over grown jungle look as well, heres my tank; maybe it will give u a few ideas:

if u have any questions about it please do not hesitate to ask.

Hi Bobby,

I don't think you'll need root tabs unless you have stem plants like swords. Your liquid fertz should do the trick. Where is the sticky located that has the information on the fertz you plan to use? I'd like to read it.

I'm afraid that unless you get a ton more plants in there to use up the nutrients you are adding, you may have a pretty bad algae outbreak. That poor little tuft of hairgrass looks lonely. ;) If you could plant 50% of your tank with fast growing plants, you'd be off to a great start.

Some "fast growing" plants could be Hygrophila, or many of the bunched plants like Rotala colorata or Rotala rotundifolia, Brazillian Pennywort, and Water Sprite to name a few. Even some floating plants are good. I had great luck with Salvinia oblongifolia. If you go this site, you can learn a lot about fast growing plants.

Keep up the good work! I'll be watching your journal.

Here is the link to the sticky about the dosing regiment. What I have is Seachem Trace, Nitrogen, & Phosphorous. I am just going by what the doing quote said.

I will be buying more plants within the next couple of days. I just picked that up at the LFS when I was there yesterday. I will probably be ordering some stuff tonight.
Hopefully it won't stay this empty for long.

Thanks for the help!

Any tricks to planting things? I just buried it and made an attempt at spreading the roots as I buried it.

Here's what was placed on order last night.....

Dwarf Hairgrass (Eleocharis acicularis) pot

Sword, Red Melon (Echinodorus Barthii v. "red melon")

Contortion Vals (Vallisneria asiatica)

Bolbitus (Bolbitus heudelotii)

Green Temple (Hygrophilia corymbosa)

You'll love those plants. How many of each did you order? I use PPS=Pro Daily dosing. It is a dry fertilizer that you mix yourself. It's a fool proof way to fertilize, which is what I need. LOL

I knew I forgot something....

Dwarf Hairgrass (Eleocharis acicularis) pot -------------- Qty 3

Sword, Red Melon (Echinodorus Barthii v. "red melon")--- Qty 2

Contortion Vals (Vallisneria asiatica)(sold in groups of 10) Qty 2

Bolbitus (Bolbitus heudelotii)---------------------------- Qty 2

Green Temple (Hygrophilia corymbosa)------------------ Qty 2

I didn't want to go crazy and buy too much. Cause with my luck, I would have killed it.

I have seen that chart before, but I think it still a bit over my head.

I know it can seem overwhelming at first, but after you do it once it's easy. ;) After you are close to running out of what you have, if you'd like, I can figure out how much you need each day for your 75 gallon tank, and tell you how to mix it. All you need is a 1 litre bottle and a scales that measures grams.

Sounds good to me. I'll take you up on that offer.

The next topic.....are Co2 diffusers normally loud? This one I have makes a squeaking noise like mad. If it is like this all the time, I might have to switch to a powerhead or some type of pump setup.
