Pharaoh's planted tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Red melon sword is a nice plant. I've got some in a low tech 29G and it's doing great.

I also have some Hygrophila corymbosa 'angustifolia', which is just a narrow-leaf variant (I think). It also seems to do fine with low light, so you should have a hard time killing it.

Once you run out of the liquid fertilizers, buy some dry stuff. Waaaaaay cheaper.

You'll love those plants. How many of each did you order? I use PPS=Pro Daily dosing. It is a dry fertilizer that you mix yourself. It's a fool proof way to fertilize, which is what I need. LOL

I just use the ei method which is just an estimate of how much you should does with using just teaspoons to measure. It has everything in a certain ratio so algae shouldn't break out. Since using it my algae has been disapearing and my plants have taken off.

Thanks for the links.

Any thoughts on the diffuser??

I let the wife decide where they go, so I will probably have to rearrange it due to height and such. But have a look. Its cloudy because I want moving things around.

a natural looking diffuser i have used is take the airstone and shove it under a mossy coconut shell. i took a coconut, split it in half carefully, then hollowed it and clean it. then boil it for about 30 minutes. allow to cool, then take pieces of moss and use thread to wrap the moss down. you can either break off a piece of the shell to have a "door" or you can just set it in the tank at an angle so that it leaves a crevice at the bottom. bury the airline under the substrate and have it re-emerge under where you would like the coconut. just place the coconut over the airstone and you have yourself a very natural diffuser. you may want to drill a few holes on the sides so that the CO2 doesn't make the shall float. after a couple weeks, you can cut the thread since you will have a nice moss anchored to the fibrous coconut shell.

i hope this wasn't too confusing

any idea how long it will take for the hairgrass to cover the whole tank?

Not really sure on the time line here. I'm just working on keeping them alive right now. LOL

Don't be jelous. You know it looked good!:D

I'm seeing quite a bit of browning on the leaves, especially on the corkscrew val. Hopefully the plants are just still settling in and it is a waiting game from here.

I put in a drop checker at the same time that I put in the plants. Co2 is right in the mid-range.
