Reeves

I've raised Ringnecks, Bobwhites, Mallards and Chuckar Partridges in the past.

Pheasants can be pretty darn aggressive when kept together, especially the males. Out of the 4 species you posted Ringnecks are the least aggressive while Reeves are the most. I always wanted to try breeding Red Goldens but it just never happened. Technically none of them are native here. Only the Ringnecks ever took hold over here in the US along with Chuckar and Hungarian Partridge. They are really native to China.

that is true, none are native.

i dont really want reeves, the red golden are just too damn pretty. im thinking about just a pair of each, in thier own cages. How much space would u suggest?

Goldens would do better in smaller pens do to the fact that they are more secretive than the other species listed and live in the under brush of coniferous forest in their native land. Pheasants are designed for walking so plenty of floor space is key. I wouldn't keep a pair in a pen that has less than 10'x10' of floor space.

I've ordered birds from this site in the past. It's worth checking out. They have some exotic pheasant pairs for sale in the "juvenile bird" section

I grew up with all types of ornamental fowl. Definately nothing less than 10 by 10. We had cages that were 8 feet wide and 12 feet long. With some cover. Cages were 6 feet high to walk in easily. Goldens are very nice but dainty. Another one I loved were Silvers, they are big and very tough. You can not go wrong with any of your choices. Be careful as you will get hooked and end up having them all.

Mcmurray has been around a long long time and never failed with my family.

Best of Luck to you

where can you buy those? i never even knew there were other kinds of phesants other than ringneck. beautifull.
i didnt either untill i was researching where to buy ringnecks. They are so beatiful and diverse.

the site is nice, but alittle expensive. but i think it would be worth it. Thinking about building cages next year and tryin it. im strongly considering either amherst or red golden. which would be better for someone starting out?

edit* looked at the silvers. wow!! still just considering the first two unless someone suggests a better one for a beginner. and i think i might end up hooked. lol.

another edit* i lov the site. omg. peafowl(which i want but dont have the room) and mandarin ducks(want but not running the stuff needed)

edit three* im prob getting guinea's in the spring as well. my grandfather lets tons roam his property. 0 ticks or fleas or really any insects. I luv them and im hoping to get some from him next spring.

Try your local Farm and feed store and ask around. Sometimes there are weekend auctions or farmers get togethers and you can pick them up on the cheap. I used to get them all this way. Also if your state has a fair, sometimes you can meet people this way. Makes me want to get back into them ( Another day). One of my favorite set ups was a trio of Goldens with a pair of mandarins. A small kiddie pool works.

Best of luck

ok cool. every wensday there is a animal auction so ill try it in the spring.

for my first one, which would be better the golden or amherst??
