Pheasant keepers? Anyone?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've always enjoyed watching the Red Golden Pheasant. I've seen 3 in my life time, and I'm hoping to own the 3rd one that I saw. come spring time, I will build an outdoor aviary for the Pheasants, I'm looking to raise and breed the Pheasant, and keep 3 hens for eggs. I ran into a bird keeper buying fish, he is moving some where east, and is looking to sell off all his birds. I'm hoping to pickup his young pair. May be Lady Amherst in the future, but for the time being, the Red Golden is cool enough.

im thinking red golden first, but maybe lady amherst. i dunno

and we can work out something, pony! that is if i get them

I called the bird owner today, and he said he won't know until the end of the month, funny thing is I see a bunch of then on my Local Craigslist for sale. but I want a mature pair that isn't from the same parents. will be my new project, building an aviary for the Red Golden Pheasant.

update this thread with pics if u get it. and to those who say they have kept them before, any pics??

i have kept ringneck, lady amherst, and red golden
currently i have an adult pair of ringnecks and a juvie female red golden
i highly suggest you buy adult birds because the youngers one sometimes die with no warning...i have raised lady amherst from eggs for the last 4 years and they always seem to die around 5 months of age here is a few photos of my ringnecks enclosure

seems i havent taken photos of the ringnecks since i first brought them home back in the summer and they were in pretty bad shape the male even had an open wound on his beak where the previous owner was using beak binders on him to keep him from fighting the other birds in his over stocked enclosure

PS i found this thread because i was reading your caiman enclosure thread and checked to see if you had other threads about the caiman.... im getting a baby dwarf caiman tuesday :D

i found photos from when the birds were in molt back in august they are much prettier now that they have new feathers...to bad i dont have new photos :irked:

Cool, how big are those enclosures?

i cant really remember i can get measurements tommorow but the flower bed in the corner is made out of an old car tire if that makes it any easier to imagine its size lol
