Pic posting rules discussion thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The reason the photo lounge is there, is to share pictures of our fish... if everyone posts pics of their fish only in the species sections, the photo lounge will have pictures of tetras and that is it. The forums are meant for information, the photo lounge is meant for photos.

Well there was a suggestion to interconnect the sections.. Where we would have a Photo lounge in each section and it would post in both the main Photo lounge and the area section...

But i don't think anyone really understood how it would work :(

It is really simple though. In my opinion

The forums are too cluttered the way it is, we don't need a photo lounge in each section. There is a singular forum for showing off your collection, and species forums for informational purposes.

How about not a separate photo lounge for each section but having one just for the cichlid section. Those lucky Marine section folks get their own photo lounge. If we did get a Cichlid Photo Lounge, remember it doesn't have to interconnect with the general photo lounge...that would post pics and threads twice and bog us down as previously mentioned. If the pics are posted only in the cichlid section, it wouldn't take up any more memory than if they're posted in the Photo Lounge.

Maybe MFK could remove the Marine Photo Lounge and give it to the Cichlid section since they're so much bigger. We have many more members and more interest in cichlids than any other section here. At the time of this post, the cichlid section has 9389 threads and 122,090 posts compared to the Marine's 2179 threads and only 23,567 posts. That should give us more pull.

MFK administration please take this into consideration because having to post everything on just one sticky in cichlids is very frustrating. Maybe I'm beating a dead horse?

Thank you for your time.

+1 And well the way I see it.. I don't see what's so wrong with just posting photos in the actual photo lounge that everyone uses..

^ AGREED ^

:)

I keep Central and South American cichlids. That's it. I don't want to have to scroll through 200 topics about "What's in teh box" or "My extreme guppies Part Deux" to find one or two photos of cichlids.

I guarantee I'd get more on topic, relevent replies (and more replies to my photos in general) to photos in the Cichlid section (many times with good information pertaining to the species) vs. the Photo Lounge where people tend to troll to boost their post count with replies like "nice pic" and "nice fish".

+ 1 i could not agree more :)

I have to agree that you end up having to surf through a TON of pictures that your not intrested in to get to the few aro..(or whatever) pictures posted on the photo lounge that you want to check out.

The photo lounge is what's cluttered (deer hunting expeditions, Birthday cakes and so forth). I'm not saying we should post our pics in the forum. We could make a new 'Cichlid Photo Lounge' tab that like the photo lounge but for cichlids. It would be collective for all the cichlids...African, CA/Sa, Pikes, P Bass and Angel/Discus. Having one photo lounge for everything at MFK makes it difficult to find the specific things we're interested in. Having a separate one would clean things up considerably, not clutter more.

Another problem that will arise with having a photo lounge in each section, would be that it would bog our system down too much.

WyldFya, I don't see how having a separate 'Cichlid Photo Lounge' would bog us down. There wouldn't be more pics than otherwise, it would simply separate some of them into a different place.

It would also free up valuble time for the Mods. The way it is now, everyone posts their cichlid pics in the information forums anyway and the Mods are constantly having to move pic threads. Wouldn't life be easier for everyone and the members would be happier too. :)

Not sure exactly how the photo lounge works yet as I don't visit much, BUT, before I joined MFK, I was a member on another forum. They had a very helpful "Gallery" as they called it:

http://www.aquahobby.com/e_freshwater_tropical_aquarium_fish.php

This actually was a VERY big help to me when I started in the hobby, and that is what I think most people viewing the photo's of specific fish would be looking for...cichlids in general or specific fish. Thats how I found that site and MFK too

I remember looking through MFK the first time on, trying to find a well organized, "gallery" type section with basic info. It was difficult, :( and I still haven't found it but its been a long time since I even looked

Not sure if this is what you guys are looking for  but MFK is a GREAT resource and this would make it even better :grinyes:

GOOD THREAD Balton! :headbang2
