Actually there are two varieties the black ones pictured above and silver ones. I read this somewhere in my search for info on them. I have both types the silver sp. has a longer more slightly slender body. Silvers fins are smaller and eyes are smaller. The black ones do have a more shorter higher back there fins are bigger. I got the black ones from you Wes. The silver ones I got from bassmasterp. Dave when I got yours I immediately noticed how silver they were. I first thought they were just flush from shipping. But they never got darker like my black ones. But now its clear they are the two different sp. probably from two different areas.
Do you know whom did Dave get his from?

speaking of this subject. If I'm correct bassmasterp got his from me, unless he got some from somewhere else as well.

as for 2 different kinds. I did get some way back that looked different, stayed silver and different eye and head shape, but never got very big and don't have them to compare to anything. I may have one picture of it somewhere...so the verdict is still out

The silver ones that Dave had he said he got from someone else. I don't take good still shots and these guys won't sit still. I just took a video of the two and loading it now onto youtube. But I have videos already in my sig below of my 300g tank where you can see them both. I will post the new vid in a few minutes.

here is new video its still processing so vid may look grainy..

I guess Dave got his black one he mention above from you. But the silver ones he said he got from another source.

As for size my silver and black's are both around 8-9". If the silver ones stay smaller only time will tell. When I got my black ones from you back in June they were around 4-5". The silver ones from Dave I got back in August were 5-6".

F me, I think the ones you have are actually platinum ones, since they're all captive bred now. I saw similar ones in Japan for over $1000.00 each, seriously...unless you think its a different species or hybrid of some kind. Great looking fish!!!

That would be nice if they were. But would Platinum's still have red color in the fins. Were the platinum you saw in Japan still have red in there fins. The article I came across I read I cannot find it again where it said of two color morphs of this fish. I will try to find it again. I want to read if they mention if the two are found in different areas. Looking at the two side by side there are differences. The silvers body shape size of fins head is more slender eyes alittle smaller. If I find the article I will link it.

May I join....:)
