Mine seem to chase eachother a bit and I started with 8 and now have five, the other 3 just disappeared over time and it’s not the water as all the other fish are fine so I think they can be aggressive to eachother
I think that I might try and add a group of trout goodieds to the tank as they are super active and a cool fish
I’ve been thinking of add goodied like that. Also was thinking x. Mayae too. Think it would be cool to have two livebarer species.
Try it and tell me how it works out and I think I’ll do it in my tank
I have found keeping swords in groups works OK providing you have two females or more to each male.
If keeping multiple males I would add no less than 4 to share aggression out. Males can be very hard on each other. Males can also pose as females and not show any male traits until they feel confident to do so. They can still harass females.
Shop bought line bred swordtails are very weak one only needs to fart near their tank and they croak. Wild types are much hardier.

I have found swords difficult to keep in small groups- I have never tried 4+ males like stanzz suggests, which sounds like a good idea to me. My males, when I have tried 2 or 3, always become 1
I have been eyeing the livebeareres at http://selectaquatics.com/ and wanting to try some. I love the goodeids, though I found them even more aggressive to each other than the swords, when I kept ameca splendens

Thanks guys! That makes sense now. I have 7 young fish now. I found a few more lol.
That is so true about these hybrid LFS swords. I have never had much success w/ them. They also don’t get as big. These green swordtail females max out at 3.5” and males 3” w/ sword. Wild types can be double the size. I do plan on ordering after seeing what happens these guys first.
GS-I definitely want ameca splendens. I can keep them w/ the swords and not have to worry about hybridization.
