IN YOUR HEAD
i saw at a lfs a 'piccasso clownfish' it was 2" and $100. it was mostly black and had orange at the base. the back third was orange and the fins were orange. is this price right? if so how much would a 2.75-3" teardrop piccasso clownfish go for? my male clownfish changed awhile back turnning mostly black like the "piccasso clownfish" i saw. does it change in its rareity and value?

i will try and get a pic of it.

here he is after the change. i made a thread before about it being possible spawning color change, but they have not spawned and it is still the same color. just has gotten bigger.

Looks like a regular ocellaris to me.. It might be an onyx but for sure its not a picasso. Onyx are worth 40 each at most

it is a teardrop(broken middle line), but it changed to the onix. it is not fully black though, it has the orange face and belly. with the center of the peck fins being orange aswell. what is the difference? my ocell looks just like the lfs 'piccasso' except theirs isn't black inbetween the middle line and the tail.

why would it change like that though? i still have not figured out why. the clowns were a mated pair when i got them and they have never faught. nothing was messing with it and the water was perfict. then it just changed.

Well let me show you some pictures and you can tell for sure. Some normal clowns for some reason turn partially black. An onyx turns pretty much all pitch black except the face and tail and fins. This is a picture to one

Picassos have different grades from what I remember but they are clearly distinguishable. The white bar in the center is completely different and nothing similar to the true percula or ocellaris.

Google it for more they all are unique.

What your lfs seems to be doing is marking up a normal ocellaris that is partially turning black (Happens a lot) and is trying to rip you off. It is too expensive to be an onyx and too cheap to be a picasso unless its a low grade one

Also the broken line is something that is completely normal. Its just a misbar and is extremely common. Probably even more common than full bar ones.

i see. i was looking at some on diversden aswell. they have one that looks simmilar to the onyx you posted. it is a true percula aswell. the pics i have givin are of my own fish. i don't have a pic of the lfs fish. my larger female is still completely orange. i got them as a mated pair for $100 when i first got a salt tank. i have never seen or herd of one just randomly changing black like mine did, so i am just tring to see if it is because of something or just something that happens sometimes.

i also was looking at the price of the lfs fish and tring to see why it was so much.

Ripping off suckers is my guess :grinno:
Where do you live? 100 for even a mated pair of clowns is a ton!

Depends on what kind of clown it is...that is not a picasso by any means however, and that fish is not worth $100.
