You must be lucky then.

It seems like its instinctive for maroons to be jerks from a young age. My lfs breaks em up to where there are no more then one to a tank, regardless of how young/small they are, just so he doesnt have to deal with the trouble.

Thats probably the issue then. They also probably sell so slow that by the time people buy them they've already morphed into females. I've noticed that maroons don't sell fast in certain LFS's.

Thats true around here. He had the same clowns that I know of for a period of 4 months.

Definitely, they don't sell fast because they get too big for all the little tanks people set up for a pair of clowns. I feel they are more of a good sized fowlr type fish than a reef type.

You guys have some good stores down in Minneapolis...what was that one? A world of fish?

I used to be a member there...but that was when I was gettin out to the cities 3 or 4 times a year. No more alas. That store would be the best store in the state here.

that fish was in a petland that was just bought out by a new guy. it is the one in the sunray shopping center off I94. i have been to a world of fish several times, they just seem to way over price things though. ex a 3-4" motoro ray is $300 or a yearly/yoy fl gar for $60-80. i go to forest lake pets alot. they seem to have the best selection and price.

I agree that the clowns you have seem to be True Perculas at best. I do think that in the midwest at least, and even online that a mated pair of anything seems do be a 100 or more.

I just bought a pair(not mated, at least yet, but 2 clowns non the less) that were marked as picassos. They are being acclimated from QT now so hopefully I will be able to get a pic or two tomorrow. They have to be pretty low grade, particularly one of them looks more like a normal percula. I liked the one that is more unique a lot though and it was 75 bucks for the 2 of them, so I went for it. Here in Milwaukee, besides one store, all true percs start at about 50 bucks, so I wouldn't really be worried that you got riped off.

As far as it changing, I can't say I know why or what the deal is. If I was you I would just enjoy it cause I think that one looks pretty cool.

btw that link to that picasso has to be the most crazy picasso, or any form of clownfish pattern I have seen.

when i got the clowns they had been at the lfs for a while and were at $60 each. i talked to the owner and got the pair for $100. i figured it was a decent price for their size and the fact that they were a mated pair. i have not had the best luck at mixing some fish for pairing, like aros for ex. i can seem to mix every other unimaginable combos, but if i want a pair of something i am sh^t out of luck.

i love the males color and i wish the female could do something similar, but i was more or less just seeing if it was something i did, so i could recreate it for the female.

good luck on your new pair.

Thanks!

Not a whole lot we can do to make them pair up besides provide good conditions, so it most likely isn't something you are doing. Fish have different personalities and what not that we can't control.

You most likely just got a different morph than the other and it hadn't shown yet. Something you now get to enjoy, which is sweet.

ya, i just have some bad luck pairing. out of dozens of aros and a few years, i have finally found some that mix. these clowns already did the work so i capitolized on them.

either way i like it. i have not seen any that have the same patterns, simmilar, but not the same. i just had an idea on the next step for my salt tanks/adventure, but that requires my thread in the shark section.
