Well I haven't really had that problem so I'm not too sure what to suggest. My 2 have been strong eaters from the start. One of them used to hide once in awhile when it was smaller, but I think it was just after the other EBJD nipped at/picked on it. The 2 EBJDs are the only cichlids I have in the 125g, so they have plenty of space to hide from each other if needed (so the sub-dominant one wasn't necessarily always hiding out in the same corner/etc like what might happen in a smaller tank).

Might be a good idea to try different foods to encourage its appetite, but diet might not be the problem. Goodluck!

Mine wouldn't eat for almost three days so I went to the local Betta store and purchased a scoop of black worms. Don't feed them to much of these though. Mine finally ate when it saw these worms floating down from the top of the tank. Also, you can try to get them to eat by using a sinking pellet like a shrimp pellet. However, you have to make sure it sees them being eaten by another fish. I used a few giant danios. They are very good helpers. This worked for me also when I didn't want him to eat worms anymore.

LFS around here never get EBJDs, except one, who charged $50. Then, they had one for about two months. People kept buying the babies, but never the big one. They didn't want to have it anymore, so they sold it to me for $25, then marked it down to $15 after some negotiating. :)
