OSCARS ARE DOPE, very INTELLEGENT CREATURES, THEY ARE NEATO', kudos on your new fish!

Don't want to rain on your parade, so to say, but just stumbling upon an A. crassipinnis is a local fish store is not likely plausible.
Admittingly your enthusiasm is commendable. It's great to see that you've taken the time to look up the fish on the net. In your research, you've probably noted where these fish come from. Commerical collection and exportation of crassippinnis very seldomly occurs.
I am definately not saying that if I have not recently imported it, then another importer who supplies your local store couldn't possibly have done so.
Anything's possible. But plausible? The odds are extremely unlikely.
So unless you saw them labeled as 'rare Bolivian wild oscars', or something like that, you'll just need to consider the odds of actually finding this species given the circumstances.

But please don't let this diminish your enthusiasm of searching and caring for the fish. I hope that your enthusiasm is contagious and others will take the time to research their new fish as you've taken the time to do so. It's encouraging (and reassuring as well) to read of this still occurring.

im gonna take a pic of the oscar i have in my tank that I got from someone here in regina and post it here to see what you think
if thats ok with the op, I dont want to derail the thread but also did not want to just start a thread about one fish. So I thought I would ask if you would mind if I posted a pic of it here op

Any pics yet. I remember there were some guys trying to put together a breeding program several years back but wer having little sucess tracking down fish. I think I came down to something like $5000 in red tape to aquire one from Bolivia.

I saw one in a small time LFS here in England recently...it looked amazing compared to the common O's it had in the tank....was going at normal O price as well but didn't have the space...this was a 'customers unwanted fish' aswell.

I changed my mind and went back for it (drove 50 miles home and 50 miles back) and it had gone....grrrr.
