If I remember right, it's been a while since I've kept one of these, but they prefer their water on the higher brackish side like green spotted puffers. You'll need to research it though cuz I don't remember how high but definitely start off by adding 1tbs/5gal. This should raise it by about 1.001 and just keep increasing it with each wc.

it says they like it at about 1.002-1.0022. i'm confused tho iv been reading up on brackish water and some sources say that you plecos are adaptable and can tolerate brackish water and other sites say they cant?
That's the confusing thing about lookin stuff up. There's always different info. I know I kept mine on the high end of the brackish side and it loved it.
I've heard the same thing about common pleco's but I dunno if its true or not.

It was like 10 years ago but I think I kept it with a green spotted puffer, a couple "freshwater" moray eels and a "freshwater" lionfish. I still have the gsp to this day and its in pure saltwater now. The moray died a few years back and was in pure salt as well.

i was just looking up the freshwater lionfish looks pretty cool, even looked up the salt water lionfish says its SG is 1.002-1.0025 which is the same as the goby. so many options
Actually the lionfish needs a lot higher salinity. They're found closer to the ocean where the salinity is much higher like the gsp and the moray. They can also be found in pure saltwater. It's much harder to convert them to frozen foods also. It takes a lot of time and patience. Some won't ever convert
