Picked up my 125 today

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have added rock and driftwood to my tank with no problems. I did boil all the wood for a couple of hours and the rocks for about 30 minutes before adding them to the tank though.

You should be fine adding the rocks just rinse and soak well! How did drilling the rocks go ?

I am actualy going after work today to buy the rock its been a ***** waiting to get stuff but I work 1st shift and everything in my area closes at 4:30 - 5:00 so I am sneaking out early today. Then once I get all the decor in im going to wet thumb aquatics here in michigan and buying all my stock. I am going with malawi and tanga african cichlids I am going to buy 20-25 Malawi cichlids and 5-7 Tang cichlids so that it evens out all the tank space being that malawi cihlids are mid to top level tank swimmers and the tanga cichlids are more bottom dwellers.
I will keep posted on progress of decor and get pictures up as soon as I can.

Do you have enough cycled media or are you going the BB in a bottle route?? Also I might consider rinsing and letting those rocks soak 24 hours before introducing them. That way when you introduce the fish they have plenty of hiding areas and territories.

Ya the guy I actually bought the tank from had his filter media changing scheduled and he actually gave me his list and what media he changed in the 3 filters dates and all, so when I set up the tank on Sunday I left the media in the filters to help the cycling time, I checked the ph last night it is 7.4 and ammonia is at .25

The rocks will sit for few days in the tank as I cant get down to the hatchery for another week or so. I can only go down on a Saturday and I coach both my daughters soccer teams and our games are on Saturdays so I have to wait till we have games early in the morning lol

Well I picked up my rock last night, I will take some pictures and post later of the before and after because I picked up some monster pcs of lava rock and feather rock and I going to attempt to drill my own holes and shape the rock possibly......stay tuned.

When you fill the filter up with water and attach the latch down top, let it set for a couple minutes, this will the the hoses time to pick up the water. Plug the filter in and it will start pumping water. If this does'nt work, unplug the tank, unscrew the black cap, add water into the black pipe until you see bubbles in your tank. Screw the cap on, plug the tank into the outlet and it will start. You may want to add an additional Rena XP3 for one canister is not enough. I have 2 on my 150 gallon tank.
