You need to look at your state laws to see what native fish you can keep as well. I would suggest agressive (but mostly nippy) Ameca and Illyodon. If you really want to push the limits perhaps the Pike Topminnow. A few females and lots of plants.
Most darters and modeled sculpin Would be my choice. Agressive when fed, and probably fun to watch. The species mentioned In my other post would be a cool idea. If you want a true native tank, get native plants and let algae growout, my outside tank looks really nice like that. Let me know what you think you want.
I recommend Belonesox Belizanus, however it might be a stretch. Wait for others to reply. I think length of the tank is most important for these fish…and tbh I think this tank is very very minimal.
Those are two of the smallest species of pickerel. You can start either one off as juveniles in a 36 bow front but you will need to upgrade as the fish grows. You’ll need 75 - 125 gallons for an adult.
