picking a cichlid

Dont worry about the size of some convicts pound for pound they are brutes and have a big cichlid attitude. If cons would get 18" I dont think anything short of a tiger shark would stop them heh.

Salvini is another option
African Jewel cichlids
Firemouth are nice fish too.

The size of the fish doesnt matter BIG attitude can come in small packages.

New to cichlids... stay clear of Rams... until you get a handle on things they are extremely sensitive to water parameters...

Con's do well in a 29g tank...
Local shops will take your fry, even petco/petsmart will take them... don't expect any $$ though... penny a dozen as the saying goes...

You can add a bumblebee jello catfish to the mix and that will help the fry count stay low... stay clear of the asian variety as they are not as hardy and will not be able to fend off an attack from 2 convicts..

My son's 29g Convict tank.... Mom, Dad and fry... cave is in the middle...
Emperor 400 for filtration... more then enough.. tank temp is 76F... ph 7.2 water is on the hard side. rest of the parameters are perfect... cartridges are from Forster&Smith Bio3....every 3 weeks i pull 1 cartridge out, start with 1 cartridge on the 3rd week put in a new one and replace the old one... rinse the blue sponge in a bucket of tank water and your good to go...

go with a male convict and surround him with 6 tiger barbs and a pictus catfish....that would look great
