Picking up 220g tonight

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok i hooked up a carbon reactor from sump to fuge. I have a powerhead in the sump pumping into fuge then draining into sump again and should eventually get pumped into tank. Fuge has 4" sand bed and live rock with a grow light and i bought some sort of green bushy algae plant for it. I need more hose tubing for other reactors. I will take out media from sump and buy more live rock for it. Should i only use LR for sump and reactors with no media?

Guess i will not use ato then since no ro

If you arent using RO i would definately put gfo in the phosban reactor. You can use your ato if you just put the same water in it that you use in your tank. It just needs to be freshwater

What ia gfo? I have the carbon reactor pulling from sump and pumping into fuge. I will put the other gfo reactor in the sump.

So for the sump live rock only or can i have some media? And how full of rock and water should the sump have in it?

granular ferric oxide - GFO aka rust it eats po4. I wouldn't run gfo or carbon with a fuge til' you know how much po4 or nitrogenous material the flora is eating - might not need them. I'd also not run carbon while cycling it could slow the process down greatly. If you run carbon more than 48 hours a week plan on dosing trace elements as carbon will remove them. You can have both LR and media but slow down - til your tank is cycled thru and stable with fish living for a few months you have no idea what your water parameters are gonna be. LR is rarely ever an instant cycle - bacterial colonies grow to meet the demands of the tank - they grow slower than our demand for instant beauty. With any SW fish tank a good test kit like salifert or red sea is your best friend. Also don't use reef crystals or reef mixes til you actually have corals - your system could overload with alk stuff and then will have to be controlled - more work than needed.

Ok. Thanks

Here is update. Much more clear although I need to vacuum top layer of sand for dirt.

All i need is more LR for sump to replace the media in it and a Skimmer. Will get reactors up this weekend.

Should I add any snails or crabs or shrimp to fuge or sump?

Thank you. Stock is 10 damsels 2 clowns 1 cardinal 1 naso tang and just ordered a clown tang and a butterfly for it. Probably will finish it off with a shark. Should be fairly stocked but plenty of room.

I also ordered a sand blenny 5 snails a crab and 3 shrimp for my 20g fuge.

woah...

you don't have fish in it already do you? i mean it's been a total of 3 days...how did you cycle it that quick? haha
and ten damsels? i wish you the best....
1 cardinal... very peaceful Schooling fish...peaceful....schooling...

Tank was up and running at the house it was broken down at. Same filter media, live sand and live rock was kept alive and put back into tank. So the tank was cycled instantly. If I would have started fresh it would not be cycled.

And...................THERE IT IS! Drop all those fish in the tank in a week and death becomes you - there ain't enuff LR in that tank to keep one Tang alive let alone 17 other fish including a shark.

Hopefully i'm reading this wrong cause I was pullin' for ya. Filter media ????????????? This ain't FW
