Picking up a mystery bichir next week

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I work at a LFS and I just love when people come in to get something for their tank and tell me about their 55 they just set up. They went to the other local store to get fish which told them 6 oscars and an arrowana would be fine for a 55 so I gave the guy my number and said when the arrow gets too big call me and his response was "It wont grow too fast will it? Im only feeding them flakes."

It must be difficult at times to work in a lfs and have to see that everyday when you are passionate about the hobby.

I always just say YouTube an adult version of the fish before you buy. This just happened to me earlier at pet smart w/ someone getting an ID shark. They were going to put it in a 55 and I said just that, YouTube it. They got some of those lil bumblebee cats instead

you shouldn't loose faith you should teach him and show him the right path so he can succeed in the hobby like many of us have. We all had those noob questions at some point but eventually we learned and corrected our errors. We were all there at some point the best thing to do is to correct him and help him learn. I can tell you this when I was first starting out there was an LFS I went to that told me you could keep anything you wanted in a 20g high as long as you did enough water changes. I eventually learned how BS that was but not after I had already bought 2 bichirs.

^ the same thing happened to me, got a 20 and a sen and a cten and they said yeah fine for life, then after I looked into them I realized I needed at least a 55 so I got one. At least I had a hospital tank after that haha

I do try, some people cant take advice though. Its quite frustrating haha. I picked up that bichir today, I'll get pics once he's settled in. As I said, it was labeled as delhezi. I tried saying to him it wasn't delhezi, and he straight up said no it is I checked. I said, as nice as I could well delhezi have black markings almost all over the body and head and sharper stripes, also the body is a light tan color not green like this is.

He goes, I checked dude its a delhezi. With an attitude. After I cashed out I said I'll show you a pic of it once it gets bigger then a delhezi could and walked out haha. Thats the kind of thing that makes you lose faith, when you realize most people think they know better then everyone else

Some people don't wanna learn and just don't care. I have friends that'll get whatever they think is cool. Even after I tell them that it'll get too big for their tank, they just say they don't care. They'll just release it into a lake when it gets too big and don't care that it won't survive here or what impact it'll have on the environment even after I tell them that they shouldn't.

^ whaaat. If any of my friends said they were going to release there fish I would take em. I wouldn't care about housing/care if its going to go into a nearby lake I'll take it just to kill it. Feed it to my water snake lol. I don't even wanna think about more invasive fish in the great lakes haha I kill too many round gobys as it is! (Anyone know if these are good eating?)

This weeksii is ballsy, he hasn't left my red wolfs side since going into the tank and will snag food right out in front of him

I know how that is lol. I got one of my friends into it and he just went and bought a silver aro for a 75. I was like dude you know that gets huge, because they have huge silvers in a display at the store he got em from. Asked him about upgrading and he said no, the guy at the LFS said a 4 inch silver would last a year in his tank then he could trade it in for another. Every time this happens (I've had it happen to 2 friends so far) they NEVER actually trade it back. The one literally had to pay them a bit on top of trading in a bigger rtc for another smaller one. I hate that
