its a red fin pickerel. about 5"
feel free to give me advice on how to keep him

How to keep them? Away from any fish that can out compete them during feeding time and away from any fish that will attempt to it like a Largemouth Bass

I made that stupid mistake a while ago. I came home from work one day and one magically disappeared...

Dont keep them with anything they can fit in their mouths because they wont hesitate to eat smaller fish.

IMO, I think its best to keep Redfin & Grass Pickerel by themselves or in a species tank. But thats just my 2 cents.

I wish you the best of luck

They do well in any tank large enough for them to turn around in at adult size (usually about a foot) they don't need a large footprint as they are fairly inactive fish, except when it comes to feeding time. Lots of floating cover makes them feel secure, as they spend most of their time waiting in overgrown creek banks.

Sweet pickup. God luck with it!

yeah, nice pickup for sure
keep the tank cool, and topcover helps
if you keep them well fed, they should leave other tankmates alone, as long as they are 3" or larger.
mine are about 6-7" and they are in with a 3.5" goldfish that they have never messed with

pretty inactive fish, but they have the "bada$s factor" that comes with being an Esox

"Esox" is the genus for all species of freshwater pike salmonid. Pike and pickerel are known as Esociformes.

80 shouldnt be bad for a short time but if there is a heater definitely take it out. They range all the way south to GA, so they should be able to handle 80 for a short time.
